You are spot on. I haven't even thought about going squirrel hunting way too hot.

I would like to hit a dove field

Our season hbeen in for two weeks. I?m seeing tree rats everywhere. But I?m not fighting the heat, spider webs, and bugs.
But when it cools off, look out, bushy tails.

I've gotten a couple of squirrels already this summer. I warned them to stay out of our vehicles and quit chewing wires.

I hate squirrel hunting when it's hot. Seems like they always have fleas all over them. Think I'll wait until late Oct.

I lived to squirrel and dove hunt when I was a youngster. I used to go squirrel hunting before school lots of mornings during September and October in the 50s and early 60s. I would go into the woods and upon the ridge across the road from where I lived before daylight and would get my limit on them lots of times before the bus ran at 7:30 AM.

I would leave the squirrels on Mrs. Burnett's back porch, a woman that lived near by. She had 4 kids and she was always appreciated getting the meat.

Only thing bad about hot weather hunting, besides the heat, was the Warbles. We called them Wobbles, I guess because that's what everybody else called them in East Tennessee, when it was actually Warbles. Lots of squirrels had the Warblefly larva on them early in the season. Nasty things!

2 cause it's twice as hot as it needs to be.

I noticed that but didn't go back and correct it.

Daddy would never let me start squirrel hunting until we had had a couple of hard killing frosts . Said there was no need to kill them when the had ? the wolves? in them cause you could not eat them . So it was usually October or so before we started .

Those "wobbles" are harmless. They come off with the hide of the squirrel or rabbit and do not affect the meat. There are legitimate reasons to be wary/careful with warm weather game, but larvae of the botfly is not among them.
