I'm old. Help me understand...

A couple years ago there was a huge national uproar and boycott of Taco Bell because their taco meat contained no meat.

Now, there's huge national praise for Burger Kind because -- their hamburger meat contains no meat.

Can somebody 'splain this to me?

    In the one instance, there was no meat and folks were led to believe otherwise.
    In the other, there was no meat and folks were not being led to believe otherwise.

    I didn't get to the top of the food chain to eat grass, etc.

    Calling a hamburger made from veggie junk is a lie.

    A hamburger is made of BEEF, IT''S WONDERFUL AND WHERE IT'S AT!

    My original post was meant to be sardonic, and I am in fact a wee bit dismayed. I can distinctly remember the Wendy's TV ads (33 years ago!) that coined the catchphrase "Where's the beef?" It seems to me that Wendy's could cart that line out again and profit from it. For that matter, so could Taco Bell.

    The USDA states that in order to call something "beef" the product must actually contain 18%-22% beef - the remainder can be grains or insect parts or fillers and substitutes...

    It was alleged through a series of lawsuits that taco bell beef tacos and beef products were made with a product that did not qualify to be called beef based on percentage of beef in the whole content...

    Or that during the process of cooking and serving the customer received a meal item advertised as containing beef that failed to meet the govt % standard.

    Independent lab testing showed that on average taco bell items contained 2-4% beef content over the govt mandated minimum standard.

    You may freely debate whether that constitutes or should be called beef.

    This is my take on it too.
    I have debated similar to this Tofu. It is often advertised it as a meat substitute. It is not even close. I mean, it is edible and isn't horrible, but a meat substitute it is not.

    Personally, if BK wants to put out a meat free 'burger', more power to them. Time will tell whether there is any real demand for it.

    Why? Has somebody actually had a problem eating GMO crops. Last I knew there wasn't any credible evidence of their harm. Bob
