Mazda CX-5

Anyone have one or driven one?

How about Mazda cars are they as reliable as say a Toyota or honda?

    We bought a Honda HRV back in February. Got a good deal. I wanted to look at the Mazda?s but couldn?t get the wife to consider them.
    The Honda came with a 10 year 200,000 mile warranty. It has the variable v belt transmission whereas the Mazda still has the six speed.

    Size wise are they about the same or is the Mazda bigger.

    That is a good warranty on the Honda. I drove my FIL Accord with the CV tranny and it was nice.

    The wife had an MX-5 hardtop convertible a number of years back.

    We kept it for around 20K miles and it never had a hiccup.

    She then 'upgraded' to an SLK (350 IIRC).

    IMO, the Mazda was a much better vehicle.

    I think there is a CX-3 that is smaller, size of the HRV, I thought the CX-5 was the size of CRV. we looked at both last year, ended up with a toyota Rav, only because they wanted to deal, we had old CRV 2009 with 179k, neither honda or mazda would give us anything for it, toyota gave us 7500 plus a 3000 rebate on the RAV told the wife it was a no brainer, warranty about same on all of them, but other two wouldn't give us more than 2500 for old car, and price wise they all were in mid/high 20k range.

    Our Mazdas (our CX-9 is the 3rd I've owned) have been mechanically good until 200k miles or so, at which point I've replaced - mostly to avoid headaches and to keep the wife and kids riding in a car that won't leave 'em stuck on the side of the road...

    That said, the bullet-proof-ness of them seems to have gone down some. Mechanically still good, but the CX9 has had cosmetic failures. Drivers side sun visor broke out and is expensive to replace... some trim came off a rear wheel well from a car wash... a mature Florida doe headbutted the drivers door right at the hinge spots and dented it enough to make it un-openable, etc.

    Next car for the wife will be .... probably another Mazda. Maybe another Nissan (had several in the family, just as reliable as the Mazdas). Have been pondering the Hyundais simply due to dramatically lower cost and much longer warranty. But if I were to go shopping right now, first stop would be Mazda dealer.

    I have not owned one or driven one.

    I have heard from mechanics that they have the worst brakes.

    others who have owned or driven one may comment on that.
