Deer Meat Purge -
There are several guys at work that have been cooking up their Deer meat, and bringing it in for others to try their various recipes. (Deer Jerky included.)
Clearing out their freezers prior to this years season.
I scored about 5 lbs. of marinated/grilled Tenderloin today.
This one friend has been bringing it in all week. I finally tried some, and told him that I thought it was absolutely Awesome!!
He brought me in a large zip lock bag today. Cooked but still soaking in marinade. (Like what I tried the other day.) A Soy/Worchestershire/Garlic etc. marinade after soaking the meat in Buttermilk for a day or so. (Excellent.)
Thinking a bunch of Sautee'd Onions, EVOO/Butter, with a skosh of worchestershire, as a side. (Unfortunately out of potatoes just now, or a couple baked with butter/sour cream salt/pepper would be in order.)
Will be dinner this evening I believe.
Really, really good stuff.

might try marinating them in fresh peaches/juice, will tenderize the meat and give it a sweet taste..... 0 -
Once you try marinated possum you will never go back to deer. Well you will never go back to any meat, ever.

"Marinating" either the tenderloins or the backstops are a mortal sin

I find "backstops" rather tough, and in need of a tenderizing marinade.0 -
I thought you ate some and now have the trots.

Grouch Attack ruined an entire 1/2 of an elk backstrap last week in a crockpot with some sort of ghastly "marinade". The result wasn't even suitable to dice for use in soup. WHAT A WASTE. 0 -
Far to much deer wasting disease around these days to hunt or even eat deer meat.

Well, unless you suck the juice out of the spinal column or prefer scrambled deer brains, there's not that much chance of getting sick from consuming venison. At least that's what I've been told. Don't saw through the bones and don't grind the lymph nodes into burger.
I'm in a "CWD containment area" so there's a significant chance of encountering an infected animal. We only shoot healthy, active deer and eat them or donate the meat to a food pantry.0 -
OK :
Im cooking a 'deer roast' now as we speak !!!! YUM !!!!
Thanks !!!0 -
I just scored some ground venison...Good for spagetti & sloppy joes...I need a really good mild ( not hot spicewise) receipe for chili ( no beans whatsoever)...keep it simple i don't cook much..
