Son-in-Law "camps" there for a couple of weeks nearly every summer. They're the ones providing the audio entertainment.

Deployed there a few times in the 80's.

    Nice place.

It was all but deserted when we were there but I remember seeing some huge deer. One time when we were there maybe around 1986 we had a UH-60 crash. I wasn't on it and I don't remember anyone getting hurt. We were doing Fast Rope operations and I think it had a tail rotor strike.

If I remember they have a huge encampment left over from the VN Boat people in the 70's.

used to be some huge deer but then they got tried of the deer eating all the land scraping around the buildings and had several years with big kill offs during gun deer season , took the numbers down big time ,

those encampments had the Cubans boat people , here's an old story on that

Both. I've done so many jobs out there, too much to remember including the Challenge Academy. Also done a lot of work at Volk Field over the past 20 years.

Good to know. I will have to consider camping there in the future.

We set up camp just a bit North of you for the weekend. In the Hixton/Alma Center area to be exact.

Haven't been out there since last October. I try to avoid working out there if I can. Way too much BS to deal with. Rumppe Construction!Yep,I know Mike, great guy to work with. He was the contractor for the Challenge Academy when we remodeled it. He's been out there it seems forever, don't know how he keeps his sanity.

I think he was there for something this summer. Sometimes they go to Camp Dodge but he's doing something with "headquarters staff" and may get sent either or both places. I think he spent a week in July just chauffeuring officers around .
