Thought it might be a Carbine sight, but not too sure

Yes, M! Carbine for sure.
My error, it is a 1903A3 rear sight, graduated to 800 yards. Measurements: 1.0 in. wide, .910 in. long, .710 in. high at rear. Marked R = made by Remington. As noted, the windage screw has been replaced.

I have had them before, but this one is just a little different and had me wondering.

Yes M1 Carbine
Some one has used a Brass screw with standard threads. Looks like the Original nut has been messed up by the screw.
