Red Light camera's
I have never saw so many people running red lights with no regards .
Just don't give a crap or playing on the cell phone and I hate to say this but I think we need red light cameras and a article I saw said NY was using them and accidents went down about 60% .

Couple of years back I stated that we need to go the German route, where cameras were set up in random locations, moved at various times. They recorded speed and the license plates.
Of course the license plates had to be on the front of the vehicle . The violation would picture to driver as well,
I got totally shot down as being an infringement of our rights.
Sorry, but I have corner acreage where the weekday traffic in the 4:00 - 8:00 commute from a state road to a county blacktop ( shot cut) can be 60 MPH.
A traffic control camera would stop. this kind of infraction. Probably pay for the camera
The posted limit is 35 -40 on the county road. There are kids, dogs, farm equipment etc. Locals know the rules, transits trying to get to work on time when they leave late to begin with don't care.
If a few more speeding fine were applied , idiots would pay attention.0 -
I saw them in use somewhere,if I remember correctly Charlotte NC.I thought at first that was cheating on the law enforcement side.Then I find that the camera can tell by your approaching speed that you are likely going to run the light and if so it will hold the opposing light red to keep traffic out of the intersection.That would have made the cameras save many lives and property damage. 0 -
have noticed that many on the road licensed or NOT, insured or NOT, think they own the WHOLE road.....anytime they are on it....one of the reasons our lake place is going to be sold 0 -
I have to go to Sioux Falls SD for work and every time I am in SF I see people run red lights. They do it without fear of reprisal like it is a safe and legal thing to do.
I would venture to say it is the norm to run red lights in SF SD.0 -

Company I retired from had operations in Northern VA and Southern MD- both areas had red light cameras. We would get a paper copy of ticket, link to website showing color photo of vehicle running light, closeup of REAR license plate. Their ordinance- pay the ticket, or tell us who was driving, or show a stolen vehicle report. It also showed how LONG after red you ran the light. Since we were registered owners, we got the tickets. Driver would be advised to reimburse us. Tickets carry no points- and COULD be contested.
Have probably reviewed 50 of them. When they show the traffic light AND your vehicle halfway thru a light than has been red for 3+ seconds- there is not a lot to say- except talk to your driver about running red lights.0 -

I can remember them being placed in a number of locations when I lived in NC. Shortly after, there was a news story of how they were being taken out with paintball guns. 0 -

In Mississippi they teach drivers that the center line is what you line up your hood emblem on.
I worked down there for 4 years and I've never seen so many people that drive in the middle of the road. I finally started playing chicken with the SOB's on my way to work in the morning.0 -

On a personal note, l was driving in New York City 1970 with my cousin who lives there... l learned VERY QUICKLY that in NY City they don't stop at red lights until AFTER its turned completely RED... Being a safe driving Southern ''gentleman'' l was slowing and preparing to stop when the light turned YELLOW :!: Almost got rear ended several times before responding/driving like the locals

local cities have been battling for years put them updisable them activate them de activate them the courts ( judges ) keep changing there mind
they even suggested here in Ohio any money taken in from revenue would be taken out of the funding to the city by the state talk about crying and threatening lawsuits
its a money maker bottom line and total BS the camera company gets 1/2 of all the fines . Ok may be a deterrent but 99% is just a money maker for teh locals
I do not recall the number but it was many ,many thousands of tickets issued last year in just one county they argue not every one pays the fine but they still have to pay the camera owners . so loosing the state funding based on tickets would hurt them
to me they ( cities , states ) love traffic ticket basic free money and funding they know the drug users , dealers ,shop lifters hookers pimps and bottom feeding trouble makers are a burden to the bottom line of the cities so in slap on the wrist probation and out and move on when a great majority of that group should be locked up in jail or mental hospitals for life
as a kid I would get fined for speeding ( way too many times ) yet several buddies that were busted for shop lifting, breaking and entering and so on , nothing maybe court cost and 30 days probation no money to squeeze out of them

We had red light cameras until the company running them was caught adjusting down the yellow light timing to get more fines.
Now I hear the rat governor wants speed cameras.

I learned to drive long before there were anti-lock brakes, and I still drive accordingly, showing respect for slick pavement. I was driving on U.S. 380 in Little Elm, Texas. A light shower had just started, making the road surface slick. As I approached the intersection, the light changed to amber. I was too close to stop without skidding (remember my early conditioning) so I went on through the intersection on amber. The light changed to red as I entered the intersection, and I saw a flash. I figured I was caught.
I got a ticket in the mail, and a letter demanding $75.00. There was a link to a video of my "violation." I checked it out, and it was exactly as I remembered. The light changed at the EXACT moment that my truck entered the intersection. It was plain in the video that the pavement was wet, and there was a light rainfall. Trying to look at the video dispassionately, I came to believe that no thinking Peace Officer would have written a citation for the "violation."
There were instructions for requesting an administrative hearing, but I know how that would go, and Little Elm is some distance away. I didn't want to go back, so I emailed the Sergeant in charge of the red light camera enforcement program. We had a short email communication. I pointed out the Constitutional problems with the program and he defended it, demanding payment. After a while, he requested that I not contact him further, so I didn't.
I looked at the fine print in the letter that came with my ticket. It stated that the City of Little Elm "CANNOT" issue a warrant for my arrest if I fail to pay. It stated that the City of Little Elem "MAY" be able to prevent me from registering my truck. So, I called my local tax office and found that to be untrue. Lady there told me that if my truck were registered in Denton County, there might be a problem, but since my registration is in Hunt County, they take no notice of red light violations.
The City of Little Elm did send a second letter, this time demanding $100.00. The letter did state that they might make a negative entry on my credit report if I do not pay. I don't know whether they ever did, because my credit report is not something I care about, so I don't look at it.
Since then, the Texas Legislature has outlawed red light cameras.
Bottom line: If you get a camera ticket, check to see what sort of teeth it has. You may be able to just ignore it as I did.
BTW, the only reason the City of Little Elm even exists, is that a small group of people wanted to put in a liquor store, so they got the area incorporated and voted it wet. My friends and I used to go there to buy beer when we were 17-18 years old.0 -
If you get a letter related to a traffic camera just ignore it. If you never respond there is no proof you were ever served the notice. They are not going to send a real person out to serve you the notice. Then of course there is the other legal issues with the cameras.
I know a man that visits the coast in Alabama every year. He got a ticket from one of these camera programs. He call the issuing agency and the chamber of commerce in that area and told them how many years he had been coming down there and how much he spends doing so. Then he told them there was other places to spend his money if the ticket wasn't canceled. His business would be gone forever. They canceled the ticket.0 -
Had them here, but all are now gone. No ones behavior changed, and the company that leased them to the city and one burb, made almost all of the money.

Red light cameras reduced accidents caused by running red lights but increased rear end accidents from people slamming on their brakes. At least those accidents were usually not as serious. 0 -
In many cases, the companies running the cameras would reduce the duration of the amber signal light, to tilt the odds further against the driver.
And, I don't care how "safe" the cameras make the intersection. I don't care how many crashes they prevent. The use of cameras to enforce traffic laws violates provisions of the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Amendments to the United States Constitution.0 -
