Flashback to the GB of the past!! SHTF topic!!
Remember when SHTF posts were all the rage, with everyone talking about how much ammo, mags and food was laid in?? The one Stat I always got the biggest laugh out of was someone bragging about having 30 to 50 loaded mags for their favorite pistol!!
I would say things like one spare mag was one more than you would need.
Think about it. Someone or a group of some ones has successfully battled their way through your two best friends, Mr. 870 and Mr. AR, coming so fast you don't have the time to reload either Mr. 870 or Mr. AR but in Rambo like fashion you will quickly pull your favorite Sig, Colt, Glock, Smith Et. Al. and in super hero fashion, save the day!!

So how many mags for your friend Mr. AR?? Assuming you are not spraying and praying you have to expose yourself to take an aimed shot. You are only going to stick your head up so many times before someone parks a bullet in it. So I'm guessing 3 mags for Mr. AR but you probably will never get to mag number three.
The above scenarios would apply for up to 1 person and two friends. A large group would dramatically change the survival dynamics!

Perhaps some are merely thinking longer term. 0 -
When people ask me about how much ammo, mags, etc are needed I tell them this. Not that many, if I go through what I have and I'm still standing there will be plenty laying around to pick up. Most of us live in a cracker box anyway, we aren't going to stand a siege. 0 -
I have a 75 round drum for the mac-90 and 120 for the AR, I wont have time to reload

I don't understand talking about your holdings. Why advertise to the world what you have. I never try to empress anyone, especially the gov. 0 -
maybe just me
I have used this example for a long time , Remember ,Barney made it for years with only one round in his shirt pocket and a empty pistol and on occasion would spend it to be able to restock with fresh ammo  :shock:0 -
I have a bunch of spare mags and cans of ammo. But only a couple of loaded mags across everything.
First of all, I?ll likely have some notice and time to gear up. The boards won?t attack two-egg WV first. They?ll likely hit the bigger town of three-egg WV and I?ll hear about it.
Secondly, I?ll bet I won?t make it thru a sustained fire fight. The hoard would likely overrun me, so a couple of 20 round mage for my FN FAR and my M1a and I?ll be done. So - let those bastiages screw with loading magazines!
While there?s part of me that wants to believe that I?ll put up a hello a fight, I know that I?ll be nothing more than a speed bump for the hoard! I?ll take a few - but not enough.0 -
Yup. My goal if they ever come for our guns, I want to take three with me. But reality sets in and I realize how old and crippled up I am so I hope I at least get off a few shots!! But hey, an old man can still dream!!
Speaking of dreams, I had a dream last night!!! My, my, my, I was back in my 20s and so was she!! Yee ha!!

many times I hear of firefights in wars that last hours and hours. but those are one bunch of soldiers vs another bunch of soldiers. the scenarios usually discussed for SHTF are more like one (probably holed up) vs a few, sometimes many, rarely one on one. none of those would last very long. I would think that if it does, you are probably at your house, and have access to your stash of ammo, and have time to reload. or have the children do it for you.
if you aren't at home you aren't going to be carrying 100 spare magazines around so what's the point in having all that. you can expend all your ammo and if you make it home you can reload. I think owning 10 mags is more than enough, because who is going to carry more than that around.
ammo stash, the sky's the limit.0 -
Boarded up and dug in expecting a hoard is different from shtf and you have to fight your way to the safe place . Most of us don?t travel with 2 to 300 rounds maggef up and ready to roll . If we last to get to the compound / shelter the equation changes . 0 -
I have my Raven for long range and my Jennings for close quarters-so yea I have 2 mags for each so I guess you are referring to bad azz guys like me - 🤡 0 -
Don't forget the Claymores,or maybe a few 55 gallon drums of mo gas rigged to hell boxes by trip wire. 0 -
What are these mag things you speak of? When the SHTF I'll take three of the suckers before they get me. One with the contender and 2 with the Arminus 357. The Arminus holds 6 but I think it will probably blow up after the second shot.

I wouldn?t reveal too much to the wrong crowd... or there will be a dude in a track suit knockin* on your door... 0 -
I usually have 10 mags per handgun because it means less reloading at the range. When the SHTF I will order pizza. 0 -
Reminds me I need to buy some more Glock mags while they are cheap and readily available. 0
