New SIG MCX Short Barrled Rifle
I've been looking for an MCX SBR for quite a while and managed to find one on GB at a price that was right. This is my first ever gas piston AR so I'll be interested to see if the hype about piston driven AR's is true. In any case, it is an impressive looking piece of machinery:
The hand guard is KeyMod, which I'm not a fan of, but I added a Bravo Company angled front grip along with a SIG Romeo red dot. The rifle is shown with one of my Yankee Hill suppressors attached to the 11-1/2" barrel, but I may end up getting a factory SIG QD suppressor. If the outdoor range isn't damaged by the hurricane I might get out this week and test fire it.

While it does not make my top ten list of sub guns it's impressive and I have gun envy - I have never handled or fired one - most of my SMG experience comes from vintage weapons mostly treaty of Versailles period to the early 1970's...
I have fired two sig sub guns and find no fault - I can assign no real hands on judgment just what I have read or from looking at the previous SIG designs - and an SBR while Mark's forte is a later developmental trend than the designs I was hands on with.
In the gunshop days we had a customer who had a collection of 50+ pistol caliber sub guns with some obscure unicorns mostly were ones you will have seen as prominent and well known...
The test firing and developing ammo part was terrific but the research and disassembly - seeing how things went together and how they fit - following certain patent design features back through the genres evolution was the best part.
Lots of bottle necked rounds and 9mm largo and .38 super believe it or not.
Do the AR platform guns like the SIG and it's competition handle carbine only loads - does anybody still go that route or load that anymore...

As Mike pointed out, the MCX is a bit of an odd duck in that the rifle is a development of a submachine gun, the SIG MPX. Normally the reverse is true: The MP-5 was developed from the G-3, pistol caliber ARs are derivatives of the M-16, and there are currently number of pistol caliber AK's. I was looking for a gas piston rifle and the MCX looks to fill the bill. Hopefully I can get it onto the range Thursday or Friday. 0 -

Following Mark's insight...
Look at toggle lock pistols which no-one can dismiss as production successes in terms of sheer total numbers and different models...
Yet the attempts to translate the toggle lock to a rifle never manifested as a working production item - yes I have the lone standout a Walther semiautomatic shotgun but for the most part it never moved the needle
Revolving handguns compared to revolving rifles - not stocked pistols with long barrels but a revolving rifle chambered in a rifle cartridge is a unicorn outlier...
In the same vein I can think of and count on one hand sub guns that evolved into working and mass produced rifles using the same actions or patent designs.
It's an apt observation.
Broom handle Mauser's is another example.
Tried and failed - SIG shows foresight and another level of acumen for pulling it off.

I was eyeing the MPX, the 9mm pistol version as it was in the same price range as the MP5 clones. Though it has LRBHO and a better mag well I just had to take the opportunity to buy a Zenith Z5RS. Nicely designed though. 0
