    A single shot leaves a single hole in the target - the act of firing several shots in a row is producing a string - observing the holes in a target you are seeing a group - if you shoot the target first and observe it later a small group is referred to as tight - a hole outside of a tight group is known as a flyer...

    An individual producing a notably small group has used has used the rifle to print the tight string...


    A rapid release of shots at a target is a volley - a group of individuals firing a shot at the same target has executed a volley fire...

    If featuring naval gun batteries it's a salvo...

    How does one discern between a carbine and a short rifle and a rifle and a musket and a long rifle and a 3 line rifle???
