I suppose. But, I can only think of Taurus from Brazil. Here, it might breed animosity if they go with Colt, instead of S&W for instance.
But, for me it is just that I inherited a Taurus S&W .38 special clone. It has been out of time for some time.
I read about their lifetime warranty so I called them. As my luck would have it, those are excluded. But, I could send it in and they'd put a little towards another one. Or, you know, I could sell it as is for around the same amount, and put that money towards a gun from a decent gun maker. This was my first Taurus. I got it for free (inherited it) and still felt ripped off. This is also my last Taurus.0 -

Actually, I think from those companies perspective, a foreign company might be better. Kinda like getting beat by a team across the country rather than your in-state or cross town rival. I am sure opinions vary. I would want our war fighters to have the best available as long as that best isn't in a country that is a likely future enemy and they'd restrict access to parts.
I buy American whenever I can unless I personally see a CLEAR benefit otherwise. For instance, I bought a Benelli Super Black Eagle back in the early 90's. At the time, it was the only gun that could shoot 2.75", 3", and 3.5" mags and do so without adjustment. I bought it for that versatility since in a course of a day back then I might hunt quail, pheasants, and geese in the same day. I later fell in love with the inertial systems simplicity. I had a few other shotguns back then. All except for a .22lr/.410 were sold and the only other gun than that brand I have kept since is a Remington 1100 .410. I still simply cannot justify any American gun to replace it. I now have quite a few Benelli's, all based on that same inertia action except a recent acquisition of a M4 gas operated. It was way too good of a deal to pass up.
But, other things like vehicles, people's opinions run the gamut, but if I were buying something, I'd likely buy an American car either in name (GM made in Mexico) or in location (Honda made in USA). That said, it isn't really an issue. I have 2 vehicles (plus wife's). My truck is 21 and has 225k and still going strong and my car is 33 years old with 32k miles. I am an odd combination of extremely frugal in some areas, and blow money like it is coke in other areas.0 -

Have to give them credit. Taurus is not known for reliability and quality.

Ken. Not of the ones I have. Don't get me wrong, I like all my "children" equally (parents are supposed to say that right?), but if my life depended on one of my 10mm's, the Colt would be one of the very last ones I grabbed. The S&W would be higher, but that was the 10xx series, not the newer stuff. But, I'll be honest, I really haven't given the new ones much trigger time, largely because they are not in my pet caliber so I don't have much need for them.
I think I am taking this thread off the rails though. I just found it amusing, particularly after my experience with Taurus. That is all. No more, no less.0 -

IMHO Glock makes a fantastic product, at a tax payer friendly price. Their product support is excellent as well. I can not think of another brand that I would trade for a duty gun, our Glock 21s have been flawless. 0 -

I am old enough to remember when SW decide to tap the 9mm automatic pistol market and introduced the model 39s and 59. Several PDs were quick to buy them. These pistols were crap. Jams, FTFs, they broke and PDs quickly dumped them. The SW Escort was a POS as well. The only autos they made that were reliable were hand fitted 41s and 52s. You could buy 3 model 39s for the cost of a 52. Then came the Sigmas which had the crappiest trigger pull seen in an auto.
It was about 30 years later, SW finally started making reliable autos. The M&P series are awesome. I have one in 40 and it shoots better groups than any of the rest of the 40s. Fast, accurate, and never breaks.
OTOH, Colt made some blunders as well with their DA autos, however anything they made on 1911 frame other than the first years of the Delta Elite and thier frame cracks are still as reliable as they have been for over 100 years.0 -

S&W autos are junk, and any US made 1911 is going to be two to three times more than a Glock so it doesn't leave too many options. I suppose S/A XDs (frames made in Croatia?) could be an option but they don't have much of a presence in LE, so your level III duty holster options are very limited. There seems to be plenty of justification there to buy Glock.0 -
I know it's a bit of a throwback but I think my Smith and Wesson model 469 stacks up pretty good against most guns produced since - and I am by no means an S&W semiautomatic fan...
My .38 special wadcutter only while somewhat narrow focused is also a quality gun.
There are and have been and will be any number of junk built 1911 clones and parts out there at any time...
I also think my SIG P210 probably beats most guns in its class.
