getting old - time for glasses

Two weeks ago, suddenly realized I couldn't read the beer list at a local watering hole... borrowed some +1.25 glasses, and wallah! So I picked up a set at publix and have been using them a lot. And now I'm noticing that there are times that I really need 'em for other close in stuff.

So I'm wanting to go to the Optometrist and get a real eye exam done. Should I do this in the morning (eyes fresh) or after work and having tired eyes? I've noticed that I can get away w/o the cheaters in the morning... come mid afternoon they are on all the time.

So... morning noon or after work ? Or it just doesn't matter?

    Buttercup, by your definition I was getting old in Jr. High School, that is when I started wearing glasses. Be grateful for all the good years you enjoyed without specs. Split the difference, late morning or early afternoon. Going to an optician will give you some knowledge of exactly where your eyes are and what you need. Then you will know if drugstore readers will do the job, whether you have cataracts developing and if you have any degree of astigmatism. knowledge is power. Sorry, Knowledge is Power.

    I would call the optometrist before when making the appointment and ask when the best time to come in is.

    One of the few intact working systems I still have is my vision...

    3 years ago at 45 I complained to my primary care doc that my vision was not as crisp as it used to be and that if up way late reading - not getting much sleep I had some eye fatigue and when shooting with iron sights past 100 yds I had to put in more effort to maintain focus and keep fine detail under control...

    He sent me to an eye specialist who ran a bunch of tests and then he literally laughed at me - said at 45 my visual acuity was superior to 99% of 21 year old males with perfect vision - called me a one percent'er...

    Oh and I have preternaturally good night vision - like freak of nature good.

    I started wearing glasses in grade school and that was many, many decades ago.

    I never wore glasses, I always had exceptional vision....................Then at 53 I started not being able to read stuff unless I held it far away.


    Now at 59 I have to wear 1.5x readers to do any close in work. My Far vision is still good maybe even better than it was. I can see the front sight so there is no effect on my shooting.

    I refuse to wear readers around my neck like some old man so I have about 20 pairs all over the place and in all cars. ;)

    I got glasses in 3rd grade.
    Teacher noticed I couldn't see the blackboard.
    I wore glasses after that, Contacts in high School. My glasses had bifocals and I paid extra to "index" the lenses so they were a little thinner. They were still like Coke Bottle bottoms!
    When I was 40 in 1999 I had Lasik Eye Surgery. 20-15 in one eye and 20-20 in the other. Best Money I ever spent!
    However, I now keep reading glasses everywhere! 2.5X for me! Rifle sights are pretty much a no go any more, but no glasses other than cheaters is great!
    Thank God for Cheaters and Rifle Scopes!

    Without glasses, I can see fine up close.........distant is where it gets fuzzy.
