that is,with one in the chamber;
do you still have a full magazine in the gun,or do you strip the first round off and leave the magazine minus one round?

For safety, I always leave the first round out of the Magazine.
I just put it at the bottom of the Mag. to keep it topped off.

I carry cocked and locked anytime I carry a 1911 variant, Star PD or others with such provisions and yes a round in the chamber. Particularly, like my
Delta Elite. Can release safety easily when drawing it.
I do not like to fully compress a mag. Have had spring double coil and lock in compressed and partially compressed condition before, This has only happened when the mag was full. Once when this happened, I disassembled and found the top most coil was stuck over a middle coil. I can also relate from my military experience such mag malfunctions are rare but I have seen happen before on ARs as well as Berettas. IMHO, a loaded spare mag is a better option.0 -

Its best to carry the gun in a holster with no clip, keep the clip in your pocket.

If I've unloaded my carry pistol, it's for cleaning. I seldom reload the round that was chambered for continued carry, it goes into the test fire box and gets fired during the post cleaning test. I chamber the fresh round from a separate magazine leaving the carry mag fully loaded. Once the pistol is loaded, the mag isn't removed until the next cleaning unless fired. 0 -
Very good point,that I left out. I too Do Not re-chamber the same round. I don't see any point in loading a mag to -1 capacity, unless there are reliability or spring pressure issues. having a round in the chamber doesn't have anything to do with it. 0 -
When I carry a semi auto it is a 1911 carried cocked and locked with one in the chamber and one down from full in the mag. Sort of a mute point for me however because I generally carry a wheel gun. 0 -
