Are these action tuning pillars?

    Comparing against pics of the electric bedding system Winchester had as an option on the Winchester model 52 with a 28" special heavy bbl and squared off muzzle might yield results...

    First ones I have ever seen.

    I have a Remington 40X with those located in the forend. Near the end of it, at about the 4 and 7 o'clock position.

    This^^^ they're called "barrel tuning screws" for pressure points to dampen barrel harmonics. A couple of aftermarket companies made them as well. A lot of these heavy target barrels would tighten up the group with about 14lbs of pressure.
