they busted my burglar

after I made the police report, I realized there were more stolen items. so I e-mailed them an updated list. today, I got a reply!
Sir,

I am Detective Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxx of the Third District Burglary Unit. I am responding to you relative to the emails you have sent Detective Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxx with the updated property stolen from your residence. I will be adding all of the additional property you realized was stolen into the original report, documented per complaint number xxxxxxxx.

I would like to inform you we did make an arrest relative to your report, however the Circuit Attorney did not find we had sufficient evidence enough to hold this suspect responsible for your particular burglary at this time. He would not admit to the burglary and would not tell us where he took your property.

We did however link this suspect to approximately 10 burglaries around your neighborhood and have charged him with multiple others.

I have added the property with serial numbers into our database and if they are located we will contact you. I will update you if we gather any further information relative to this case.

so they made an arrest "relative to your report" but they didn't have enough evidence to take him to court. and, it wasn't that they caught him with some of the stuff, because they don't know where any of it is at.

I wonder how did they arrest him in relation to this particular burglary?

    sometimes I think the old rubber hose lead pipe questioning worked a lot better than promising a easy sentence for confessing



    when I worked construction it was not uncommon for personal tools especially the carpenters tool boxes , most left the majority of there tools on site
    they would steal them from the job site company would cover but still a PITA and replacing them
    but sometimes out of there personal vehicles I remember the police follow ups "do you have insurance " Ok
    that was the extent most of the time of any follow up
    once a buddy found some of his tools with his SS number ( back when it was the thing to do ) engraved at a pawn shop he called the local cops there reply buy them back and let it go , :shock:
    once a parking lot guard at a unemployment office watched as some one broke out a window of another's buddy's truck took the tools and left when my buddies jumped his crap he replied I am guarding the parking lot not your truck if someone tries to steal the parking lot I will act

    Most high echelon in PD's see theft and burglary only as an expense (@ ie. food, housing, medical, prosecution) rather than revenue producers such as traffic offenses, code violations, serving legal documents etc. etc. Most street criminals have no money for fines and such so the systems isn't interested in them, when you understand that you'll understand it's all about....money and not crime control ;)

    You also realize, law enforcement only responds AFTER a crime has taken place.

    The Supreme Court has ruled law enforcement is not obligated to protect any individual.

    law enforcement carries guns to protect themselves, not J.Q. public.

    Mine went the other way. They caught my burglar in two days and returned most of my stuff that night, the rest a week later.
    It helped that he wrecked his stolen car when pursued away from an attempted B&E at an alarmed business.

    Never happen here. They retain the 'goods' for 6 months or longer as 'evidence' for the trial and sometimes requires hiring a lawyer to get the cops to release it to you even after the perp is in the pen.

    I know, I was lucky that they caught him so quick with so many other charges. Else my guns would have been tied up in evidence for who knows how long.
