  The premise is simple: Hit an asteroid with enough force to change its orbit and (hopefully) prevent a collision.

  Or turn a bullet into buckshot. :shock:
  This sounds like the first Hydrogen bomb test. Half the brainiacs thought it would work as planned, the other half thought it could burn off our atmosphere. No one knew for certain, so WTH, lets try it and see what happens!
  Ex BIL is involved with this launch, it's been in the planning stages for a number of years. We had a discussion about it where he said a number of the astrophysicists theorize that even if it goes off as planned, they can't calculated where that asteroid will go. One risky possibility is it slamming into an asteroid belt somewhere causing a cascade chain reaction. That could send them our way, in a life extinction event. So WTH, lets try it and see what happens! :roll:
