Had State Farm forever. If the coverage is greater than you feel just ask them to reduce it. Have to go see them today about insuring an out of state home policy.

Insurance rates will continue to increase as long as we go without meaningful tort reform.

The Ambulance chasers know full well it costs more to defend a case than to simply settle it.

Insurance companies are not going to hold the bag therefore rates will continue to climb regardless of your personal claim history.

I have been with State Farm since I was 16, a lotta years ago. Excellent service and reasonable (for insurance) rates, which do not escalate annually.

IN all the years I've paid homeowners insurance, never once had a need for it.

Damn, I could have one hell of an arsenal and ammo bunker for all that wasted money.

No wonder insurance companies have huge buildings, lavish offices, high paid execs and invest in real estate and other entities...all with OUR money.

They have it as good as the casinos in Las Vegas. IF you finance, you are required to buy insurance.

It's all a game and they play it to win......you lose.

Never a claim and homeowners insurance premium increased almost $100 for the next year.

If insurance had never existed until today and someone just dreamed it up - it would be labeled a scam and outlawed, right up there with pyrmid scams.

After we retired and moved here our insurance co sent a guy (an idiot) to check out our house.

Shortly, I received a letter informing me they would provide insurance for a year but it would be cancled at that point...because I had lied on my application when I did not declare the detached rental apartment near my house.

I have 3 sheds: a chicken coop, a wood/tractor shed, and a large storage shed.

    I called them.
They called me a liar, repeatedly.
    I called them stupid, repeatedly.
    I changed insurance companies.

Later, I found out my nearest neighbor, nearly 1/2 mile away, through the woods, has a detached garage with a small apartment in it.

Never let an idiot wander about your property, unattended.

Through the years I've had 3 property insurance claims.

A car hit my house. The driver was being pursued by the police when it happened. Circumstances included felony warrants, spiked tires, pit move and shots fired in my front yard. My insurance company was American Family and they canceled my policy after the incident, they did pay the claim.

I've had 2 claims through Pekin insurance, one for vandalism on a rental property (brokern windows, dorors) and another for storm damage on another rental property (included a tree falling on the house). Pekin covered the claims, kept rates the same, and never questioned or complained.

    I still use Pekin Insurance.

I'll let you know shortly. A week ago, Lightning took out my well pump along with the very long underground electrical feed leading from the well pump to the house. Filed a claim and still waiting for the well drillers to do a permanent fix. They put in a new pump and a temporary power line above ground so I at least have water. I paid 2K for that work out of pocket. Should get reimbursed for all except my 1k deductible. An estimate for the underground line is 8K as they have to use a special long distance side drilling rig to get the hole down to code. The distance is close to 1000 feet.

This will be my first claim of any kind with an insurance company. Paid all my life and hopefully Allstate will take care of me!

I?ve had a few different companies over the years. The only time I used insurance was many years ago.

Once, my car was stolen and recovered. The damage didn?t meet the deductible so I had to pay out of pocket.

The only other was when my HD was stolen and not recovered. They paid for current value. But nowhere near what I?d put into it.

So - I, too have been paying into the insurance industry for over 40 years with nothing but I guess, peace of mind, that if my house burns down I won?t remain homeless...

We currently use Erie for both home and auto insurance. Local office - wonderful ladies working there.

Am retired from 2 different commercial insurance companies. Do not and did not sell insurance (am engineer) Here is a news flash-
Most insurance companies pay out more than you pay them.

You pay a dollar. Insurance co. pays agent commission, claims, license fees to state, their light bill, salaries of workers- they pay out $1.02. And are happy with that- Because while they are holding your $1, they invested it, and made 4%, So they actually made a profit of 2 cents.

The "inspector" that reported the apartment you did not have? Doubt he was employee- most of those are independent inspectors that get paid $25-$50 for an inspection- but did a lousy job. I did inspections of commercial properties. Have been in a couple that I was afraid would blow up while I was in there (one did 2 weeks later) Found one that was been prepped for arson (really). Most businesses were good folks, and sharing risk with other businesses- which is what insurance is SUPPOSED to be.

Does the country need tort reform? Oh HELL YES! When a burglar falls thru a skylight and is allowed to sue- there is something WRONG!

However- question was about homeowner's insurance- cost will depend on where you are, what you insure, and your loss record. I have our home insured with State Farm. Some folks love them, some hate them. Been with them 35 years. 2 losses- BAD loss due to tornado (5 months to rebuild. Replaced 90% of contents, rental house while rebuilding) medium loss due to fire (bathroom vent fan, set fire to bathroom- 2 months to repair, clean entire contents due to smoke. They did an excellent job on both claims, have not raised our rates.

You will get what you pay for. Carry a deductible you can afford. Don't file claims for nickel and dime stuff. Every insurance company will have an unhappy customer with a horror story. Amica and USAA have the highest satisfaction ratings I have seen.

I've had insurance with American National since back in the days when the insurance salesmen made house calls to collect the premiums.

    I agree.

Erie Insurance. I have had two deer strikes on my Nissan commuter. (About $11,000 total.) They paid both, expeditiously. No raise in rates. I have them on my homeowners policy as well. I plan on contacting them about a broken 4X5' window soon. :o

    +1 for State Farm
47 years with no complaints. Agents were always stand-up people.
An acquaintance who sold second rate policies said that he could only match, but not beat State Farm.

Thanks, can you be more specific. Have heard some negatives about not full pay outs from State Farm.

One small claim and they drop you.

The cost of insurance, once you have been dropped, is outright robbery.
