Range report.....Rock Island 10 MM 1911
I haven't had a 1911 in about 30 years so I figured it was time to get one!! 
Went to the auction side, put in the low to high price and up popped a Rock Island 1911 in a 10 MM as the cheapest option. Never owned a Rock Island, (never owned a 10 MM for that matter), didn't know squat about Rock Island but I didn't want to spend much money and it was the lowest price option. I figured if I still liked the 1911 platform maybe I would spend the money and get a good one.
I don't need to get a good one, the one I have is just fine as is. I was shocked at the quality of this 1911. Locks up TIGHT, no matter how much I wobble the slide, nothing, no play, sideways or any other way. The finish is a flat matte but underneath the finish the metal has been nicely polished. Everything about the way this pistol was finished is excellent, including the grips, very well fitted and very attractive.
Off to the range I went!! 2" target dot on a cardboard dot, stepped back about 30 - 35 feet and squeezed the trigger. First shot touched the upper edge of the target dot! Second shot about an inch over the first shot! Shot about a 5" group. Reloaded and rapid fired seven more, opening the group up to not quite a 10 " group! I shot 28 rounds total. Each shot was a solid center mass hit. This 10 MM ran as sweet as could be!!
If you aren't impressed with that shooting, please remember I have had a stroke and my right hand and arm is weak.
I am totally thrilled with everything about my new 1911. Sweet looking, sweet shooting, all for $500!!!
If this is the quality Rock Island puts out, all I can say is if I'm looking for another 1911 I will be real sure to check out Rock Island Armory first!!

Glad you fixed that. The 10mm is better than the venerable .45 acp in all but a couple of ways. First, subsonic. If you want to shoot with a suppressor, a .45 acp is hard to beat. it is already at or close to subsonic already and having the bigger projectile is a plus. 2nd, cost. 10mm is not cheap but if you reload, it isn't too bad; barely above the .40 S&W (for Short & Weak as us 10mm fans say). It can be loaded up to the great original full power Norma loads, or down to below standard 40 loads.0 -
You can get a pretty nice upgraded Rock Island 10mm for the same price as a basic Colt, Kimber, etc.
I was planning on a Ruger 1911 10mm as my next gun, as I have the 45, but will look hard at the Rock Island.
Dreher, I doubt I could shoot it as good as you even off of a rest.0 -

Seriously, the 'cutaway' has made life easy for me re explaining to various clients what needs tuned/replaced(and why) on their weapon.
I do regret having never shot it before breaking out the Dremel ,,,,,,,

I have no idea what an upgraded RIA is but this one has a fiber optic front sight, a grip that is very good looking but doesn't appear aftermarket, looks factory to me but high end factory. It also has an ambidextrous safety.
I'm so impressed with this RIA 10 MM probably partially because I was not expecting much but I got way more than what I anticipated. Looks good, shots good, at this point seems reliable and looks like it can hold angle of center mass all day long. What's not to like??0 -
I've owned a RIA 1911 in .38 Super for a few years now, great pistol IMPO, although I did change out the factory grips, they tend to be too slick with damp/sweaty palms ( at least in my case ). 0 -
