went to gollden corral....

for breakfast this morning, was up that way and hadn't been for a long time. sitting there eating I got to watching the others and came to a conclusion. golden corral is the wally world of restraunts, people 300lbs and more walking around with two plates heaping over. others in dinjy/dirty pajamas and slippers. I bet 3/4 of the crowd just got out of bed and drove down.........

    Next time, go to Panera. You?ll see anemic looking thirty-somethings eating their GMO-free lentil soup.

    i like that! Wally world, of all you can eat buffets. Haven't been in years. High Blood Pressure & Cholesterol, takes the fun out places like that. Almost worthwhile, just to see the people of Golden Corral. Not a bad idea. Starting a U Tube channel. "People of the Golden Corral."

    I?ve noticed that. Jammies for breakfast. Hell, jammies for dinner too!

    But - what they lack in quality and taste, they make up for in quantity and entertainment.

    Ms. WT and I rarely go there. I love the breakfast buffet mainly because I can pig out. She?s more choosy...

    We have a local Ponderosa that has a breakfast bar on Sundays till 1000. Much nicer...

    Golden Corral is hit and miss. The one closest to me is so-so. The one in Mount Airy, NC. is great! Clean, fresh, and always full.
    You can actually eat fairly healthy if you stay away from the fried stuff.

    Golden Corral has gone down hill.

    I will not go there, food quality is poor.

    There are better alternatives.

    Thirty years ago, we started calling it, "The Trough" because of the pigs lined up at it. It hasn't improved much since then. The food looks pretty good, but is essentially flavorless. When I go - and I still do at times - I have a cup of soup, some salad, the fried or baked fish, and veggies. I like their okra, their mac and cheese, and their cornbread if it hasn't dried out yet.

    You just have to keep your eyes down on your own plate to avoid getting the gags at the other customers.

    The Golden has folded around here, BUT we have the next thing, RYANS, at least in this area. I mean I was literally shoved out of the way by a 400lb porker getting to her bacon on the hot board. Geez, I didn't think to much about the place and haven't been back. We have a fine local place , The Hitchen Post, and real good, . :)

    I'll never go to a G.C. I've been there twice. I think they put something in their food that makes you feel full. Maybe baking soda. I don't know but when I went, I noticed feeling bloated after just a little bit of their crappy food. My daughter played softball in college and returning from away games they'd stop at a G.C. because it was affordable for the whole team. She said they'd all end up with diarehha.

    We used to go there occasionally as a sort of "treat" (we don't eat out often). Now the closest GC is 120 miles away so no go no mo. I've backed away from the all you can eat/pig out places lately and seldom eat out at all. There's a Chinese Buffet about 40 miles away that we visit 3 or 4 times a year and each time I become disgusted at the "pigs at the trough" folks who are there.

    I don't eat at buffets.

    All the people leaning over the chow drooling and picking stuff up with their nasty hands, man it makes me sick to even think about it. I am not hacking on anyone but I would not set foot in a Golden Corral unless I was starving and it was all there was....

    We used to go to " Golden Corral" ( no idea bout "gollden") on a regular basis ; its a 30 min. drive from the house : alwys been hit & miss on the food ?

    Sometimes really good ? Sometimes just fair ???

    Havent been in a Long time , went down there last Thanksgiving : couldnt even get into the parking lot : there was a line of people waiting Outside all the way around the building ??? I ended up elsewhere !!!!

    Never been to a Golden Corral because there are none close to me. I do get to see their commercials on TV though! Our only all you can eat buffet's are just a couple of Chinese places here. The local Ponderosa Steak House just closed early this summer. It had been in business since the late 1960's.

    There is a Big Boy about 30 miles away that still does breakfast buffet's on Sundays, but their biscuits are always powder dry and their gravy would need an electron microscope to find any meat in it!

    For me, eating out has become a very rare occurrence since my retirement. I like to cook and I don't mind shopping for the stuff I like to eat. I learned a very long time ago how to select what is fresh, ripe, nicely aged beef with just the right fat marbling, and buy my produce from local Amish farmers in season.

    I only went once to see what it was all about. Your observation is spot on about their clientele.

    Also the food did not look anything like on their commercials.

    The Golden Trough would be a better name for it. Hogs in a hog lot are actually cleaner and have better manners than the customers at the Golden Trough.

    Just got back from GC. Don't know what y'all are bitching about, their food is great. I do know that some are better than others and some just suck.
    We took the wife's son there for his birthday. As we got to the register a young(30-ish) black guy walked up and paid for her son's meal. He had heard us mention son's birthday while we were in line I guess. I get the feeling it was a church thing. Some days you do get a glimmer of hope for humanity. Wife and I got the senior early bird rate. $16.20 OTD, drinks included, for both of us.
    Before the "He's gonna follow you home and kill you, take your money and rape your cat" crowd chimes in, he was still sitting when we left with what looked like his parents and young daughter. I went over, shook his hand and thanked him as we left.

    Because of this thread, and because I'm flying solo today, I went to GC myself tonight. I may have hit it at the right time - about 5:30 - because the crowds were small, the food was fresh and hot, and I had a very enjoyable meal. My piece of fried chicken was one of the best in quite a while, in fact. The cornbread was moist and hot and the salad bar was fully stocked with just-fixed greens and extras. I was impressed.

    The older I get the more I believe timing is the most important thing for meals. On busy places that are always good (to me anyway) like Outback, Cracker Barrel, Red Lobster), we prefer to go at odd hours because it is more quiet and peaceful. But, most buffet's, we go about that time 5-5:30pm. Before things have sat out for hours, or picked over

    They might be that devious and that wouldn?t surprise me a bit, but you?ll never convince me they?re that smart. :lol:

    Did they have French Toast Sticks? I used to love those things.

    Had Dinner and Ice Cream in Branson last night. Ate at Big Whisky's and then had Ice Cream at Andy's.
    Passed by a Shoney's Restaurant on the strip. I thought they went out of business years ago!
