Ken how is that 44 magnum??

Have you been shooting it much?

I just got another Ruger SBH and it is sweet. Its a non converted 3 screw/pre warning 4 5/8" gun made in 1970. I am going to send it to Magnaport and have it ported and a orange front sight insert put on it.

When are you going to start reloading? If you are ready I can get you started, if intrested PM me.

    Thanks Sam. I really like it. I have been shooting it/getting comfortable with it, with .44 Special rounds.
    The 7" barrel is pretty damn accurate. This sidearm was purchased do to my penchant for rifle/pistol combos, sharing the same round. In this case the Ruger .44 mag Carbine, mounted with a Simmons Pro series 3 power, Diamond reticle shotgun scope.

    Although I wish I could have sprung for yours, I like this one. :D

    I am trying to get him to start reloading. I can help him get started easy.

    If you are going to get good with a 44 you either have to reload, be married to a woman who ownes an ammo company or be rich. I see it selling for about 45 buck a box of 50 :o Almost a dollar a pop.

    I have been scoring it for about $37-39/per 50. :o :shock: (A $ a round, phshaw.) Harumph................

    Not cheap, but a hoot. I really need to get in to reloading. I have Uhmn, er, ......a few calibers to attend to.

    Sam what does it cost to load a box of 44's today. I always preferred cast bullets myself.

    Although somewhat unfamiliar with the single action, cock each time regimen.

    I kind of like it. Like a single shot rifle ( I own quite a few,) it makes you concentrate, and make it count.

    The holster I have for my 1858 Confederate Navy .44, fits it perfectly. :D

    If I shoot my own cast bullets I would say about 2 cents a round.

    If I buy Cast bullets(good ones) maybe 6-8 cents a round, maybe 10 cents with good jacketed ammo.

    I factor in Buying Bulk Powder and primers and having my own brass. Brass lasts a long time as long as you don't abuse it. I have brass that has been reloaded maybe 20 times.

    I cast my own bullets and get lead cheap or free.

    I have 2 Dillon 550b's one is set up for small primers the other for large. 500 rounds an hour is easy to do once its set up and that takes about 15 min.

    Even with a SS press like a Rock Crusher I can produce 50 rounds an hour easy. I also have a Redding turret press that will put out even faster. Measuring the powder is probably the slowest thing with a SS press and you can speed that up considerably with these new auto powder dispensers. I have a RCBS model and it is very accurate.

    I would say the 1st 5000 rounds pay for all your reloading stuff to include components.

    I try to shoot everyday and usually do on my backyard range so if I shoot 200 rounds of centerfire ammo it is worth it for me to reload.

    I really cannot remember the last time I bought ammo in a store except for Self Defense handgun ammo or slugs and buckshot. I reload For my shotguns too and I must say shot is getting expensive almost to the point elcheapo 12ga is worth buying.

    I remember loading on a single stage press and using the little Lee plastic dippers that came in a set to measure powder into the cases. Use a scale to see which dipper was right for the powder you were using and then just dip and dump. Man I remember the first time I used a Dillion and thinking Damn we are gonna need to buy a lot more brass. :mrgreen:

    Dayum Sam, those prices sound attractive.

    Need to get in to the whole re-loading aspect of this hobby.
