    OK :

The little ( 730 people ) town I grew up in So. Illinois ( Energy , IL) had a place named Polar Whip : 15 cent burgers , w-onion,pickle,mustard :
It was real meat ? a mixture of burger and ??? with lots of pepper !

We kids would get a handfull of change from selling soda bottles and go buy a load of these burgers and fries and a soda : all for around a buck or so !!!

The place is still there ! The old man who had it raised 3 kids : put them through college selling them burgers : His son has it now , was a teacher then took it over when the old man retired !

I really miss those burgers ! Unique taste !

    Thanks !!!

It's been quite a while since I've risked having a "buckadog" at the local convenience store, but I used to have them maybe once a month. Two dogs and a small lemonade made for a nice lunch. I always added mustard and relish to the dogs, that's all.

At that price, a hot dog has to be about even between "meat" and fillers, with a handful of nitrites, nitrates, and polysyllabic stuff, but having one once in a while won't kill you.

Once a year I will get a corn dog at our local county fair along with a small French fry that has been made from fresh potato's with the skins left on. They always have a bottle of apple cider vinegar with a spray spout and a big salt shaker with oversized holes in it. That along with a ketchup & mustard squirt bottle. Pretty sure the same venders selling the same exact stuff have been there since I was barely able to walk upright.

They always seem to not only taste good but keep my taste buds coming back every year. The costs have gone up considerably of coarse. I do not know how much, but back in the day my dad only gave me a buck to spend for a day of fun at the fair and I hit a couple of rides along with this meal. Now I spend at least 8 bucks for just the food.

as a kid there was ( still there different owners ) hot dog place just out side a great town park wher I grew up and a 15 cent hamburger place opened up in town but it did not matter
mom and dad would take us maybe , maybe 3 times a year to each one . as a kid I did not understand at the t time money was scarce .

the hot dog place ( like out of the 50's look ) it went to a BK root beer stand for many years I use to stop by the place often after I got a job and a car . now I am not sure what they call it but wife and I still stop by on rare occasion if in the area but prices are more and the hot dogs have to be the cheapest lips and buttholes they can get
