    Naturally harvested velvet is great for dogs, not so for commercial sold velvet.

    I remember it being a "cure all" on "Longmire". I wonder if they're spongy (the bit near the crown) like sheds when in velvet?

    Yes, the part near the base along the inner curve is a little spongy.
