gotta little family cemetery..
that I take care of, my mom helped us get most of the graves marked, it is right in the center of a public hunting area, people would tear the road up in the fall/winter and a lot of headstones came up missing I would bet in a big mudhole less than 100 yards from the cemetery when they got stuck using them for traction trying to get out. I have been using the rectangular patio blocks painting them white then put names/dates on them as headstones and placing them as close to where they should go as memory serves. Last time out noticed mine had come up missing, just got done painting a new one in garage will take it out tomorrow and mow and replace it. it is bad enough to steal/take an old headstone some from civil war era, but to take a cheap $1.50 patio block really burns me up. allways was little strange to be mowing and see your name on a headstone, but it is even worse now to just see a square of dirt in the grass........

As someone one highly interested in preserving the resting places of those who have gone before us, allow me to extend my thanks to you and your mother for doing that work. Hopefully, someone now or in the future, aside from you folks, will be exceptionally thankful to those people who have helped preserve the graves of their kin, most especially should they have the good fortune to visit them in person. 0 -
thanks for your efforts to maintain a heritage site...and some how a watch needs to catch these disrespectful chits and administer a beatdown...a small neighboring town had 2 kids damage a lot of grave stones...they got caught and their stupid is ingrained in the town history 0 -
Great job your doing, sorry that the local misfits don't have the same respect. Don't let it get you down though. If you can set up a couple of game cams AND if the local LEO's are on board, almost guarantee you'll catch a winner -- fine them to the limit--and problem will be stopped .
I try to place flags on overgrown cementary plots for Memorial Day, I try to remember what our forefathers have gone through. Their good times and bad times weren't any different than ours. Just that it seems that in these times, the respect isn't there any more.0 -
+1 on flags, we got these metal holders from VFW that have various wars on them for the veterans, while we have only had one stolen, a civil war marker, the flags are almost allways gone, and I loose the one on the flagpole at least once if not twice a year.Cornflk1 wrote:Great job your doing, sorry that the local misfits don't have the same respect. right after 4th of july a local real estate agent put small flags up on the roadside for about 1/2 mile on each side of their business, I stopped a few days after and asked if I could have a few, she said if I would take them down I could have them all, I bet I have about 150 now so I am well supplied for my cemetery war markers.....0
