Ever order from Rock Auto ?
Relative closed an auto dealership a few years back. Their inventory included lots of brand new parts he wanted to sell.
He contacted RockAuto about selling the entire inventory. Found out RockAuto has no inventory and has no warehouse ... they are strictly a drop shipper. If he provided a list of parts w/part numbers, then they would list them, notify him of a sale and he would be responsible for packing and shipping to the buyer .... and he would get a % of the sale price.

I've bought quite a bit of stuff from them, and always had good results. As much as I like buying anything I can locally, when I can get name brand parts for $8 that cost $30-$40 for the same thing down the street, well, sorry Charlie. I didn't know they were drop ship only, but they seem to get everything lined out well. 0 -
my sons and I buy from them often had a couple reruns but even that went well , core charges always refunded . still some of the parts I needed I get local if in a huge hurry to get a something fixed normaly a friend or neighbor wanting ther car fixed asap but have a lot of the parts I need the places had to order , aahhh no I can do that .
same with a lot of internet purchases find what you need best price and delivered right to you for me it at least a 20 some odd mile round trip each time I go into town
I think more and more places re doing the same source out the items but why prices are lower no warehouses no huge inventory less man power and overhead cost
and I am sure those who supply Rock auto are glad to get the increase business0 -
Rock Auto could never supply at their inventory that many parts. Middle man from China places that sell them stuff. imo 0 -
The cat back high performance dual exhaust set up for my 2005 Lincoln LS luxury sports coupe with the strange and uncommon 3.0 liter small block V8 came from rock auto...
My mechanic - my car repair guy - the shop - found them for me...
Only place he could find that carried a performance exhaust for my little Lincoln - made in Canada if I recall...
My only dealing with them and regardless of the drop ship 3rd party nature of the warehouses I was happy to be able to get the parts without resorting to a custom fabricated system - and I have had no problem with its fit finish or function...
It is a bit throaty and loud but not alarmingly so.

Been dealing with them for 15 years and ordered stuff from them all the time, never had any issues and fast shipping. They have found and shipped classic parts to me as well. I recommend them. 0 -
I?ve had good results with Rock Auto. Saved a bunch of money. However, when there is a core charge, such as brake calipers, it?s a pain. I usually buy local in that case.
I got a water pump for my F250 in 24 hours once.0 -

Rock Auto is doing a lot of advertising on TV.
From these post it looks like they ARE NOT wasting their money. Service a new customer well and they will likely return.0 -
Great luck with Rock Auto.....They have even called me after an order and inquired as to the specific part and repair application...Made order changes that made my wallet feel good and my repair easier...!!! 0 -

Same here: I usually go to them first and compare prices of Local Auto supply store prices. One thing to keep a heads up about is when ordering from rock auto multiple or several part iss be sure to try and get parts that are keeping the shipping charges from the same warehouse. If shipping charges seem high check and change the order so as the same supplier is sending the parts. May cost little more for a part but worth the effort to eliminate multiple shipping charges.

I?ve had back luck with getting the wrong parts, last three orders they sent the wrong stuff. Brake calipers for a 1979 F150, received two dual piston calipers, no idea what they fit. Fuel pump for 1995GMC K1500, not sure what that pump went to but it wasn?t wired for my truck. Temp switch for the same 1994GMC, I know there is two temp sensors on that engine and was very carefull when ordering, the one they sent matches no other sensor on that engine.
O?Rieleys has never let me down and our local Car Quest has a guy behind the counter who is a walking parts catalog. One of the few parts guys remaining that you can give a lousy description of a part and he?ll figure it out and get you what you need. In the case of transplanted parts into a vehicle in which they don?t belong he can still get you what you need.0 -

I've ordered lots of parts but then they pizzed me off and I quit.
I ordered a temp sender for my Kodiak 7500 truck. The part was an exact match but was defective. When I tried to get a replacement part or refund Rock Auto customer service argued that this part does not fit that vehicle. DAH, it's exactly the same but just doesn't work. NOPER, doesn't fit the application, you ordered the wrong part and no return. I was out the cost of the defective part, the shipping, and then another gouge from the local parts store for a sender that did work.
That kind of took the savings out of several past purchases I'd made. I'll admit that some decent savings can be had as long as you don't try to return stuff.0 -
Was just on there looking for a cooling fan for daughters '03 Durango. Trying to decide if I want to do it or let my regular shop do it. I about melted on Wednesday figuring out why it was overheating. In the daylight, its hard to see if that fan is spinning (or hear it) over the main fan.
Always had good luck with them.0 -

Ordered the fan from them. Can use the $150 labor charge saved to stock up on shotgun shells & practice trap. Daughter can leave car with me for the weekend.
Now that we fixed the lights on the trap field I might can hit more!!0 -

unless it is literally 1/2 price or so I would just as soon buy local, can take the old part in and make sure it is same/matches up with what I need. have bought a few internet items and they turned out to be different/not what was ordered, and it is just a hassle to have to mail back. on another note, don't do much of my own repair work anymore, easier just to pay local mechanic I trust and have to bend/twist and hurt the next day.... 0 -

Dude, people think all I do is bitch bitch bitch but I swear I have extreme bad luck. No, nothing ever goes right and I?m done buying car parts online. I need to see the part and verify it is correct.
But, this last time I got lucky!!
I bought a 1991 F150 for $300, didn?t run, no spark. Got it home and went through several hours of troubleshooting. The previous owner bought a new distributor, easier than replacing the pickup and module. It has a new coil a d new distributor but refuses to make lightning, all power connections are good and test fine under load. So what the hell, I pulled that new distributor out, grounded it, hook my spark tester up to the coil and spun it by hand, nothing. So I ordered a new distributor off of Amazon, that pickup runs and drives now!
Ohh, and the 79 with the 390, got the nee Holley 750 off of Amazon cheaper than anyone else sold it for. Cheaper than Summit, Jegs, Autozone, O?Rieleys or any otger parts store. That works just fine and that old truck runs good now.
But those are two rare occaisions when ordering parts online! I wish auto parts were as easy as big truck parts, last 5 of the VIN and the counter guy sees exactly what the truck left the assembly line with. Me and the fella at the Kenworth parts counter in Billings are on a 1st name basis now, he has my card info and address, make a call and the little brown truck shows up the next day with the correct parts!
Now I have to go find out why the dual gas tank setup on that 91 F150 does not pump from the front tank and the rear tank fills the front tank causing a loss of fuel pressure and a check engine light.0
