1911 magazine question

bought a couple of Kimber pro carry mags yesterday and they came with an extra flat bottom plate and two attachable rubber bottoms, different thickness'. what is the purpose of putting this rubber on the bottom of the mag. i looked at 45's on the auction side and saw these used on several of the ones listed for sale. thanks
