I'd start the day with my favorite breakfast. 3 over medium, hashbrowns w/ sausage gravy, 5 or 7 strips crisp bacon, toast buttered and a plate of french toast.
I've taken a likin' to the Johnsonville brat patties so three of those on the grill with a bit of hickory thrown in for flavor. A slice of cheddar, thick tomato and lettuce slathered with mayo and honey mustard and cheese burgers can't compare. My home made onion rings would round it out nicely. (Put the hickory on a piece of foil and roll down just one edge and flatten the ends. This way it smolders instead of flaring.)
I'd have started supper the day before with chicken thighs in a vacuum bag with a mix of pineapple juice and honey and later into the smoker with mesquite. I'd probably team that up with potato salad and fresh corn on the cob. Heavy on the butter for the corn.

my suggestion would be to leave it alone before the surgery. you do not want it inflamed and with a few days left, the time is now to cool it down. pursuant to that, don't eat anything at all with fat in it, or miniscule amounts. eat small meals. do what they say and don't eat or drink anything 12 hours before the surgery (etc.)

after the surgery you won't be able to do anything for a few days, maybe not even get up out of bed and you're stuck there. follow the diet they give you. you don't want any post-op complications. plan on having someone around to help you.

you have it backwards: a few weeks after the surgery, you can eat anything you want. you can wait for that.

ETA: most people don't know how or why their gall bladder starts hurting. it's because of fat. you have stones in your gall bladder, you eat fat, the gall bladder squeezes like a hand squeezing a lemon (the gall juice is to dissolve fat), the stones get squished and it hurts. can be deadly within a few hours-days when a small stone gets stuck in the tube, causing the pancreas that shares the tube, to back up and start eating itself. that may happen, and will happen eventually if you keep abusing it.

if you QUIT eating anything with fat in it, the pain will stop for most people (others are just plain fubar and need it removed right away) mine was so bad I went to the ER and spent 4 days in the hospital... then changed my diet to no more than 2-3 grams of fat per hour, and that enabled me to make it a year while saving up money for the surgery. I could have easily went longer but had to take it out sometime. that shows how well that worked. just don't eat fat.

if you binge on fat greasy foods, you are risking getting a small stone stuck in your bile duct and either a) killing yourself, or b) they have to do another procedure with an endoscope to get that stone out of the bile duct (to save your life) in addition to the other surgery for removing the gall bladder.

as they say, BTDT and I have the scars to prove it.

Well, sounds like your bladder must be working. Mine went WAY south about 3 months ago, in a hurry. Couldn't eat ect Called Doc, said some tests, mild irritation with small stones. Take it out in two weeks- I disagreed with that assessment -Got another Doc, ok, if you hurt that much take it out Monday, another 3 days of torture. Short story long, 40 minute procedure turned into 4 plus hours and an overnight stay. Gangrenous GB exploded when she started. Doc said she had no idea??? I DID. MY GOD, it was terrible. Hope you have better luck than me.
Lost 20 pounds during that episode which didn't hurt me.

Take no risk or chance in this type of surgical procedure...

As noted above once you are on the table and opened up - filleted like a fish - they often discover problems and run into complications despite previous examinations...

Have you had an MRI or a CT scan or a PET scan???

They ran into serious issues with me - I was on the table for close to 6 hours - supposedly I expired twice - they brought in a second surgeon and specialist nurse to assist the original team...

I look like a deranged lunatic wearing a hockey mask attempted to cut me in half at the waist with a rusty chainsaw that was misfiring...

Seriously play it safe - stay safe - I want to see you come home.

    Want any hospital stay tips???

Thanks guys. I knew I could count on this august group for humor, and, as evidenced by buschmaster, Grasshopper and Mike, some sound advice.
I?ll throttle back the intake a bit and get this mess outta the way. Fortunately I?ve had a bunch of imaging done and there aren?t any stones, just a buildup of ?sludge? (The doc?s term, not mine. I appreciated his candor.) that hasn?t turned into stones, etc...yet. He wants to get ahead of things before it gets worse. I agree.
Mike, I haven?t had near the body and fender work that you have, but, thanks to a lifetime of misadventures and fun, I am an alumni of Shock Trauma and most of the damn ER?s in the area. Fortunately, in today?s world, they?ve been able to rebuild/put me back together more than a few times. I am being a bit more careful than I may let on. After all, a cat only has so many lives, and to say I?ve pushed the limits of my luck in this world would be an understatement.
I?m gonna hang on to any and all menu suggestions for the post op rebound.
It?s a nice day, time to roll out the scooter and take a long ride.
    Thanks guys.

Great for you. Those CT's are not always right. Mine said small stones when in reality there was two the size of Robin eggs. hence the cutting me open ect. SO I HOPE yours is much smoother. Good look sir.

They often think I am insane when in the hospital on an unrestricted diet...

Ice cream and peanut butter crackers and plain American cheese on a Kaiser role and hamburgers and copious amounts of ginger ale and chocolate chip or Oreo cookies...

But it's solid food that sticks with you and packs on the calories and provides fuel and energy...

Did I ever tell you guys about the time I ordered dominoes pizza from my hospital room - adding chocolate lava cakes and cinnamon twists for the gals / nurses???

Yes I get the joke but as always am concerned when you guys get admitted and the cutters get at you - call it cancer ptsd.

I also gave up my gall bladder. No change in my diet afterwards. I can eat anything and enjoy it.

Funny story- when I was having the surgery they told me after they gave me the anesthesia to put me out I was still talking and said to save my gall bladder because Iran afrodisiac.

Chris take it easy and eat clean before you go to the Hospital.

I would ask the Dr to save your gall bladder because you want to see it, kind of like taking your car to the shop and wanting to see the parts they replaced ;)

Good luck and I will be sending positive vibes your way.

BTW if you can get them to give you the gall bladder maybe you could sell it to some chinaman to offset the cost of surgery.

Ah ha! That?s it Sam, I knew there was a silver lining to all of this. Over the years I?ve had enough spare parts installed-titanium, cobalt steel, etc-to start my own Auto Zone, or scrap yard if ya count the odd pieces of copper/lead. It?d be nice to finally have something taken out that I can trade for cash.
Ya know, as I have aged just a tad (62 ugh) I?ve adopted as my view on life what I call the ? Classic Car Theory?. I can still go as fast as always but simply need a little more maintenance.
I appreciate the thoughts my friend, they mean a lot.

Thanks Ken. I do appreciate it.
(Too bad we can?t make a video of the whole thing and sell it to book face or a similar operation and make a few bucks.)

    Then have a burger

I?m 35 miles north now Mogley-still too damn close. My better half still lives/works there (By choice, ugh.)in one of the (very) few slightly better areas. Despite the hype from the left, even her neighborhood is infested with rats. The whole damn city is a crime scene. I spent my whole career there, and, despite all the blood spilled by so many to hold the heathens at bay, it?s worse than I can ever describe.

The hospital I earn my frequent flier miles from actually makes a decent hamburger on a quality Kaiser roll - and it's grilled not fried...

Now getting it delivered on time and still warm is another issue altogether.

    Does 5 guys deliver???

    Hmm...

Nah, but if ya really needed one Mike I?d get it up to you. (Maybe relay it thru Oakie.) I?d have to stop at your state line and switch weapons/mags/ammo.
