Girl Bumble Bee is a big 'un

While I was out in the back patio cleaning aquarium filters I saw me this huge bumble bee on my bucket. Twice the size of the boy bumble bee going to town on her "Bumble Bee Style" kind a like reverse cowgirl. They were going at it for a while and I was expecting a pop. I've been told when boy honey bee gets some he gets his boy bits ripped off with a "pop". But after 15 minuets or so seeing the boy bumble bee holding on to her big ass I had to get my chores done. Came out but they were gone. So I don't know if there was a "pop" or not.

    I cannot even begin to imagine what chores you have to do that are more important than finding the answer to that question.

    Your "girl" bumble bee must have been the QUEEN Yosh! Probably exiled from the hive where they are supposed to keep these sexual acts behind closed honey combs! :lol:

    Your boy bee must have been a "Drone" born without his "pop" stinger.

    Why not bees - don't player hate - don't discriminate - don't obfuscate - don't seek to obliterate - they don't procrastinate - they just seek to fornicate - and then eradicate...

    Moral and biological imperative to procreate and pollinate and become invasive from state to state - you got that straight..

    Distinctive coloration and hive tenement mentality - quick to invade your domicile and sting the curious...

    Sippin on nectar - drinking a 40 or a can of tecate - that private stock - unbound by borders.

    Smoke makes them confused and turgid and lazy and slow and docile - smoking that herb may seem similar in comparison

    Cleaning out aquarium filter is something one wants to get done quickly.

    TRAP55 - Free nature show. I rarely see bumble bees let alone a big ass "queen".

    Brookwood - Well I figured she was a "queen" since the boy was half/third her size. Must be setting up a nest for the coming winter.

    He Dog - I figured being a bumble bee which can sting more than once they may not lose their bits like honey bees which are one and done.

    Not quite big a my thumb (trigger finger to the second knuckle) but the girl was a big 'un.

    Yosh, the males have no sting. Only the queens lay eggs and the workers are all female, their sting is a modified ovipositor.

    Okay but after they split does the boy/drone lose their modified ovipositor like honey bees with a "pop"? That's what I was curious about.

    I am not an apiologist...

    I neither keep nor tend bees and do not harvest honey / honey combs from industrial artificial hives...

    I don't have the funny hat and a smoker...

    Yosh, an ovipositor is the tube through which a queen lays eggs. In workers (which are female) it is modified into a sting. Males don't have either. They do not lose any parts during or after copulation. Never heard the pop story before.
