Truck Gun ????

Thinking bout maybe a 'truck gun' ??? something to throw in the truck when Im traveling ???

In addition to my normal 'carry' gun I have in a pocket :

Suggestions ?

    I carry a Kel-Tec Sub2K in the venerable. 40 caliber. Paired with a Police trade-in Glock 22 with Trijicon night sights that shares mags with it. One 17 round mag for the Glock. One 10 round standard mag for the Kel-Tec. About 5 loaded 31 round mags for both. All in a small MEI Ballistics cloth backpack. With get home essentials, in the Nissan Versa commuter.

    In the Jeep Lock box, it is a Kel-Tec PLR 16 in 5.56. Meprolight M20 Holographic sight. Single point sling, cross shoulder, tension it out, instant SBR. Stock 10 round mag, one 20 round mag, and about 4 - 30 round mags. All in a very small ballistics carry case.

    Those are my "Truck Guns."

    I will not be killed for lack of firing back.

    My work vehicle is soon to be equipped with a 10.5" 5.56 AR "pistol" with a red dot and QA suppressor in a generic rectangular zipper case.
    Two legs or 4, 20' or 200 yards, all the same.
    Farm pickup is always equipped with a scope mounted AR capable of small/large targets at any range

    Czech semiautomatic carbine chambered in 7.62x45mm intermediate cartridge with the side folding hinged integral bayonet and the 10 round detachable box magazine - all numbers matching hand select + grade (very good plus with intact light wood - no cracks - mint bore)

    Tanfoglio GT380 semiautomatic pistol chambered in .380 acp / 9mm corto an early production piece - a functional mid sized beater in good condition - no pot metal or rust - always goes bang

    A zombie apocalypse tacticool browning A5 semiautomatic 12 gauge shotgun
    BBL has been shortened to 18 1/4" and a surplus polychoke has been installed
    The gun has a magazine cut off switch - the magazine tube has been extended to be slightly shorter then the bbl itself (minus the choke)
    A short section of rail has been attached to the top of the receiver and can accept a Williams fiber optic firesight in day glow neon orange (front sight matches) or a hold sight or red dot optic or shotgun scope if desired / as needed - a trigger shoe has been installed
    It's an FN Belgian browning from 1970 - the left of the receiver has a shortened side saddle ammo carrier installed that will only accept 3 rounds
    It's a humpback project gun - a rescue piece

    These 3 are now classified as truck guns depending on the circumstances or destination or external environmental factors...

    I always wear my CC but also in my truck I keep a short barrel Remington 870 .12 ga. with a side-saddle :)

    Minus the can I have the same setup in my truck. ;)

    Apropos of nothing - somewhat tangential...

    After installing the replacement parts and reassembling the trio of Tanfoglio .380 pistols - I am keeping one for myself as an emergency back up gun or truck gun or a cabin in the woods hideout piece...

    I am giving one to each of the girls - they should prove adequate beaters for practice and maintenance and general range day gun...

    I was sorting through my supply of .380 acp / 9mm corto ammunition - consolidating it and inspecting it and setting some aside for each of the girls. I have one .50 cal ammo can full of mixed commercial ammo - a .30 cal ammo can full of never fired brand new aftermarket brass and some bullets and some odds and ends...

    I thought that was it - then remembered the wooden crate of military surplus .380 acp ammo I had set aside for a rainy day - a remnant of the gunshop days ordered direct from a distributor (*Sarco from North Jersey)

    The logo or crest or makers mark shows the bold capitalized initials "S B" inside the outline of a large toothed gear or sprocket divided vertically by a Spanish broadsword

    The square and cute boxes contain 25 rounds each in a small flimsy white plastic tray with nooks for each cartridge...

    The wooden transit chest contains 500 round - the aforementioned data has been stencil painted and burned into the wood - there are two stout wood carrying handles and a set of hinges and a simple 2 piece clasp painted black...

    I also have 6 boxes of additional ammo

    It's nice brass - headstamp reads "SB-T" "9-C" "82" which is easily deciphered

    Deep dark green sealant around the primers

    It looks like either a hollow point filled back in with lead or a flat point FMJ with a circle of copper removed from the conical flat point tip

    A semi jacketed truncated wadcutter???

    Added all together I have a little more than 1000 round of loaded ammo and maybe 300 loose mixed pieces of pick up fired brass - and another 300 pieces of new unfired brass

    It's been awhile since I have seen this ammo for sale or at the range - we moved a ton of it through the gunshop at $3.25 per 25 rounds or 100 rounds for $11.99

    I don't seem to have a record of what my dealer price was from sarco

    Anybody have some - anybody know it' backstory - any opinions on it???

    What would a thousand rounds of new boxed factory MIL spec .380 acp like this cost me today retail???

    Great post on truck guns - and this is the ammo for one of my truck guns.

    I guess it depends on what your expectations might be.
    BTW I won't go into the difference between a "truck" and a pickup.
    There's ALWAYS a rifle of some sort in the farm pickup(22lr or .223 mostly) and always a handgun on my belt. For me/us, a pickup gun would be suitable for removing any sort of varmint or predator we might encounter w/o making a fuss or risking bouncing bullets across the countryside. The choice might include a suppressed 17 HMR or 223 or plain old 10-22--all will handle most tasks with varying levels of success/ranges.

    While I agree with this assessment, my end goal with what is in the heavy lock boxes in my vehicles, is what if I am at work, 33 miles from home, and the SHTF?

    I plan on getting home. Quite a bit of that 33 miles is on the Appalachian Trail, with most of the remainder in heavily forested woods. I want more than my carry piece on me for that hike.

    Plan ahead, or not. Your choice.

    Again, this depends on need and expectation. "The one on my hip" won't do you much good if you're looking at a calf killing coyote @200 yards or a building damaging groundhog @ 50 yards.

    I have a Glock (currently configured with the 21 slide and barrel) always. For road trips the 870 20 gauge riot gun with slugs and buckshot selection.

    When I travel I carry either my Mk 18 10.3 pistol or 8.5" .300 blk pistol (w/ 3 20 rd magazines)plus two handguns, typically Glock 9mms. Around town I have an extra pistol in the lock box in my pick up.
