where the heck is it?

I keep my range bag loaded up with everything needed except ammo (well, there are always a partial box or two of each caliber I shoot in there) and firearms. It is a former diaper bag, so big and plenty of space, and it closes up completely (zippers). I only open it at the range, and when I get home to put more targets, etc. in.

One of the items is a little tiny staple gun. Barely big enough to attach paper to card board, it won't reliably attach cardboard to target frames. So it never gets used around the house, etc.

Going shooting tomorrow morning, took a few things out of the safe that I've not shot in a long time, opened range bag to put the mags in, started poking around... no staple gun.

Having accidentally left my range bag at the range once I'm paranoid about repeating, so I always make sure there is NOTHING left on the bench, etc. when I leave....

So where the heck is the staple gun? I have a feeling it is in the same place socks disappear to between the laundry basket and when the load comes out of the dryer...

    I easily have over a dozen staple guns folks have left at the range and never came back looking for it...

    I also easily have another dozen recovered out of trash cans on the range were folks got frustrated with non operable or jammed or not very well made or taking an oddball or obsolete staple size example and chucked them in the garbage...

    And okay maybe another dozen recovered when parting out and selling off of gear from an estate sale...

    How can you bring bereft of staple gun - one lacking a staple hammer???

    Why don't you have several in your primary range bag or in your back up range bag or in your car or in your garage or in your man cave???

    Now you will suggest to us that you don't carry around a supply of assorted styles and sizes of staples that don't fit any of your staple devices just in case you or someone else needs one at the range???

    How sad.

    I have a little film container full of push pins for targets. IMO, much easier to use...

    The answer is simple: your little staple gun is where you haven't looked yet. It's either in the range bag, tucked under something, or in your ammo box, or where you last changed targets.

    The remedy is as simple as for all other "lost" objects. Buy a replacement, and within hours, you'll find the original.

    I used to do managed services I.T. work. I was always going to businesses or homes and using various tools. I was pretty good a remembering most things except my thumb drive. So, what I ultimately did was bought a neck lanyard that I put through a zipper eyelet. Then, I affix the USB drive to it with removable clip. Then, when I use it, I leave the lanyard on the outside of my tool bag. If I get up, grab my tool bag and start to walk off, it hits my leg and reminds me. When it is connected, I put it inside the bag when I zip it up so I don't have it flopping around. This worked so good that I started doing that with all the commonly used tools.

    I like the push pin idea. Put them in an Altoids tin or prescription bottle and you'd be set.

    I bought a braided leather duck hunting lanyard for the same purpose - the type you hang calls and bands and dog whistles and such on when afield...

    I attached a small d ring carabiner to it and would attach it to a tool bag or a belt loop or wear it around my neck...

    It works quite well and looks pretty good - for smaller items.

    ...have any contacts at a nearby courthouse? Bring it by and run it thru the X-ray machine (Remember, I mentioned folks you know. Lol.)
    I?m betting it?s still in the bag somewhere.

    Sounds like what my mom did with my mittens when I was in grade school. She ran a piece of clothesline through the sleeves of my coat then attached the mittens. When I put my coat on, there?s my mittens.

    A friend an I were talking about that last winter; about how we never see that done anymore.

    My parents bought each of us kids a heavy pair of gloves, and a lighter wool set each fall. They only bought one pair of each. If you lost it, you went without or had to wear mismatched or last years if we still had them. It was good incentive to not lose them though we still occasionally did.
