    You mean they already have beach umbrella regulations in place?

    I suppose ignorance of the law is no excuse. Then again, I don't own a beach umbrella, so that probably makes me a "Beach Umbrella Fudd". I imagine being BUF on the beach is a good thing (although I think you need one more F). :lol:

    A Chester woman was struck and killed by a windblown beach umbrella in 2016. The CPSC reports about 2,800 people were treated for injuries from beach umbrellas between 2010 and 2018.
    Virginia?s two senators have called for a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of windblown beach umbrellas.

    There's a big difference between raising awareness about potential danger or a product and prohibiting the use of it.

    Not surprising at all. Personal or individual responsibility are traits DEMOCRATs despise. Toss in self reliance as well.

    DEMOCRATs approach to what they deem aberrant is predictable: Tax, regulate, or ban.

    Common sense seems to have left the building along with Elvis. A few years back there was this TV commercial promoting this big insurance company and how much they cared about our safety.

    A banana peel was dropped by some litter bug on a busy sidewalk. The insurance company's agent went to all the trouble to place a traffic cone next to the banana peel. :shock: It sure would have been so much easier and cheaper (no expensive cone needed) if that butt hole would have just picked up the banana peel! That seems to be todays mentality.

    Worrying about beach umbrellas, good thing Kaine didn't become Hagery's VP,, then who'd save us?

    Was anyone ever maimed or killed by an Umbrella? Did anyone think to ask? Pay Hundreds of Thousands of dollars a year + plus all they can steal and this is what they do.

    Actually, yes. A woman was killed here in Virginia Beach 2 years ago when a gust of wind blew a beach umbrella and it impaled her.

    So she wasn't killed by the umbrella, but by the gust of wind?

    Well, actually, that IS a serious problem in some beach locations. My summer place is on the beach in Ocean City, MD, & we had 2 tourists impaled by flying umbrellas last summer.

    If you look at the rental umbrellas, they are all well made with heavy wood poles. Properly installed, physics make them stay in the sand under normal wind circumstances. The problem is, most tourists buy cheaply made Chicom umbrellas with light weight hollow aluminum poles, & they don't bother buying a plastic sand anchor; so, with just light wind gusts, they go flying across the beach.

    So, since so many have little regard for the safety of others, I guess the only solution is to pass more laws.
