Maybe Global Warming is man made
I was listening to BBC where a Japanese dude in a "mascot" outfit (not Disney Tokyo) died in 38?C = 100?F. In that segment they were babbling on about how the temperature has gone up 3?C in the last century (at least in Tokyo) got me thinking. I know dangerous. Anyways I remember "Morpheus" from "the Matrix" mentioning human produces 25,000 BTUs (over a lifetime maybe) but more like 250 and 400 BTU (according to google). Figure about 2 Billion folks in 1927 to about 7 Billion today and all the miles of black top I'm thinking yeah, maybe. So I'm wondering when population becomes 10 billion and the temperature goes up will we get a clue that there's too many people and start culling folks? Yeah I know that'll be a hard sell for curing Global Warming.

Anything man could do here on earth pales in comparison to what the sun is able to do. Hold a torch to a steel pipe you hold in your hand and tell me all about how it's your hand making the pipe hot.. 0 -
Cities are and can be MUCH warmer than rural areas. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine 99% of the vegetation in cities has been replaced with buildings, roads and parking lots that absorb and retain heat from THE SUN. Other factors can't compare. New York City is completely covered with structures/roads except their central park.

That don't make sense when you take it out of context. Sorry, kindof dishonest if you ask me.0 -
Have you taken into consideration "Multipliers"? You know, like a magnifying glass and the sun. The sun on its own don't start fires, but the man made optics in conjunction with the sun starts fires.Mr. Perfect wrote:Anything man could do here on earth pales in comparison to what the sun is able to do. I am for cutting CO2 emissions for the oceans sake not so much for the effects it has on warming. If the oceans become to acidic we will lose the biggest supplier of oxygen. We cut way back on sulfur dioxide emissions (think acid rain). When technology catches up we will be able to ameliorate CO2 emissions as well. Of course if we implement the green new deal today we will solve the problem by either starving or freezing to death half the population. Bob
Hey Bob, it appears we agree so what's up with the AOC crap. I am quite informed and have seen first hand.
It's not anecdotal, it was visual confirmation.0 -

Yes, we agree on some things. By all reports that I have read the overall air quality has improved quite a bit for the U.S. in the last 50 years. For my anecdote - I grew up in a GM town where the emissions from the factories would literally eat the paint off a new car in a years time. As a rule that is a thing of the past. I wonder just what is the cause of the brown haze that you have seen. Could it be dust from our recent drought? How about smoke from the California or recent Canadian forest fires? Crap high in the atmosphere blowing over from China or India? Those are things we can't control and I still believe we should be working on preparedness for the inevitable changes coming. Not wasting time and money on things like the green new deal stuff. Rocky has a point, why waste all your time and resources on something that may only have a one percent effect? Bob0 -
Not getting into this debate about climate change. What pisses me off is the fact that the powers that be want to add to our tax burdens for paying committee's for study. We all see a lot of wasted tax dollars used to study things like Russian involvement in our election system.
Congress has been in a state of total confusion for several years where they spend all of their time placing blames around and not getting the REAL work that they were elected to do DONE!
Paying expert idiot's millions upon millions in tax payer dollars for reports presented used to keep Congress divided.
This entire global warming issue is merely another ploy to further erode our current system of Gov't with intention to take away our power and sovereignty and give it away to foreigner's!0 -

I know the air was bad in metropolis areas, and those areas are better for the most part. It is the open space which concerns me. On one flight, when I got to destination, I commented to my sister and her husband. They are both Highly educated "Teachers". Dust was their reason, I didn't buy it then and don't today.
Yes, there are days in Tucson where we get dusted out, that is a total different airborn contaminant. This new Haze is not localized, it is as if the base layers of the atmosphere are actually a different color, and this has gotten worse, even after the cities have cleaned up. When you read or confirm a test, that is not anecdotal. Just like when I make visual confirmation of the pollution.
As far as 1% effect that you mention, where is that number coming from?
Sure, we may not be able to slay the beast in one shot, but this didn't happen overnight either. It is a culmination of over 100 years, and nobody knows the tipping point, or even if there is one.
The Ozone hole, myth or real? Haarp myth or real?
Man is polluting his environment, and we need to be aware and take any steps we can. And I'm not talking about a big giant vacuum cleaner type air purifier for the earth. I'm talking about educating the 7 billion people to quit peeing in the drinking water. My observations are that we can do a lot better in this area. Then the greater powers can reign in the big polluters like mining and other large enterprise.
Yes, Mining. Rosemont mine just got hit with another Federal stoppage of a huge copper mine out here. 13 years they have been trying to get permission to rape and pillage the area, contaminate the water and leave a decimated pit with acidic water for the birds and other wildlife to die in.
Will this mine make a global difference in the weather? Probably not, but the blowing dust from the tailings will hurt thousands and thousands of acres of wilderness and private ranches. And ruin the water in that basin.
So what do we need copper for? Just about everything these days. So what is the solution? It keeps returning to population control, militant style recycling and building products that are not "throw away".
On the other end, manufacturing and mining need to be responsible in not polluting and destroying the fabric of the earth which naturally cleanses the water and air. Or, we will have to make the 91 trillion dollar vacuum cleaner.
So while the green new deal as presented sounds ridiculous right now, it isn't that ridiculous that we should stop taking steps to keep the Earth clean. And if you ever saw the modern marvels about flying and transportation etc, you would see that jet exhaust covers nearly the whole globe, and if continues to increase, all the rain in the world will not clean the air. And the stuff filtered out by the rain has to go somewhere, and a good portion ends up in the ocean.
A 100% tax on all air travel. I'm on board with that to clean the air up. Maybe that would help keep business local too. A couple bucks per gallon of gas tax too. That will cut down on the gas hogs and frivolous travel. Yeah it would suck, but the people causing the problems can pay.
Do cow farts and create problems? Probably a bit. Do the added biomass heaters cause a problem, probably a little. 100 items at 1% =100% That one little boy peeing in the ocean may not make a difference, but in your swimming pool, it does. 7 billion little boys peeing in your swimming pool, that's not a swimming pool any longer, and neither will the oceans tolerate such flagrant abuse.0 -
Mag00 while we share some of the same concerns, you have lost any credibility with me when you bring up conspiracy theories like HAARP. Which theories do you subscribe to? Weather control from a temporary heating of a small area of the atmosphere 100 km up. Or maybe the chemtrails that carry mind control substances activated by HAARP? If the military is controlling the weather they are doing a piss poor job of it as our weather is just as bad as the rest of the world.
As for the taxes/fees you propose that's one way to crash the economy and dry up research funding for things that may actually help. Oh and good luck trying to educate the third world not to pee in the pool. Perhaps we should find a way to clean the pool instead. Bob0 -
One volcano eruption puts more pollution in the air, than mankind has in the entire history of man.
Man made Global Cooling/Warming/Climate Change is the biggest con that has ever been pulled.0 -

I agree that the earth has gone through ice ages and firestorms without any help from mankind but I think it is stupid to think we have not had an impact on the planet.
Further I think it is prudent to look into ways to reduce the impact mankind has on the earth and its resources if doing that makes me a looney liberal so be it

Yup they can have their own mini climate in a very localized area at surface level. Mountains can influence the climate more but also at surface. HAARP was an upper atmosphere experiment 100 km up (60 or so miles). A lot of cold dry air that was heated in a small area. No influence on surface. Unless you have rewritten facts and basic science - heat rises. Bob0
