Stud Finders??
Has anyone ever found a brand of stud finders that actually work consistently?
I can find studs with my knuckle tapping on the sheet rock better than I can with any of the stud finders that I've bought over the years.
I got to looking yesterday when I was hanging some stuff for my wife and I have 4 different brands that I've bought in the past and not a one of them is worth the plastic they're made out of.
I have a Sears brand, a Zircon, a Black & Decker and one made by Stanley. The Black & Decker at least has a laser level that works but it's never found a stud consistently in it's life. It will show a stud in one place and you can go back over it and it'll show it some where else just like the other brands. Or it'll show the whole wall as one big stud.
I looked on Amazon and it's like looking for dehumidifiers, there's not a brand made that they sell that doesn't have a bunch of bad reviews. You look on google and they show some videos of the top 10 brands and they're the same ones that's on Amazon with a bunch of bad reviews.

Haven't found one yet that works. Went back to the knuckle knock,hammer a nail,measure,plaster nail holes 0 -
yup that's what we did. tap it with a hammer. tried a stud finder once and went back to using a hammer. 0 -

If you know someone who has a thermal (FLIR) camera borrow it. A little pricey for just finding studs. I use mine for spotting game, but it works great for finding electrical wiring, water, sewage pipes, and studs. I picked mine up on Prime Day. One of those toys I'm going to get a lot of use out of. 0 -
seen a few of these when i was clubbing at a much younger age ...i tried, but they picked one across the room.....some real nifty models back then.... 0 -

I use an inexpensive density moisture meter, works great. I'll look in my tool box and get the brand (General Tool). 0 -
I just use a really strong magnet to find the screws/nails used to adhere the sheetrock to the studs. 0 -
I use two Neodymium magnets stacked in a force cup, that works pretty good at finding nails or screws in the wall. other wise knuckle taps. 0 -

I bought a Ryobi one from Home Depot years ago. I scan left till a beep, right till a beep then split the difference and I haven't ever missed a stud in the drywall yet. 0 -
Franklin Prosensor 710 works better than any other I have tried. Does not work though stucco, but dry wall is a breeze. 0 -
Since most electrical boxes are nailed to a stud, it gets you close to where the stud is located. Most people are right handed so it is easier to nail an electrical box on the right side of a stud, helps you get even closer, to know where the stud is going to be found. 0 -

It appears that a lot of people share your opinion on the Franklin sensors. I did some product review reading on the Internet and decided on the Franklin Prosensor M90 and purchased one.
Today I hung several picture frames for my wife and it worked perfectly. I didn't get any false readings. Time will tell how reliable it is.0
