9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, 97 to 2, Senate passes IT'S APPROVED !!!!

SOME WILL BENEFIT FROM IT , FOR SOME IT'S TOO LITTLE,,, TOO LATE !!!

Congress can never do anything about the growing numbers of people still dying from 9/11, but the Senate voted Tuesday to ensure the words ?Never Forget? will never be just a slogan for the cops, firefighters and everyone else who ran towards the twin towers after the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history.

    What about the the 1,040 people that were injured and killed in the 1st World Trade Center bombing on Feb. 26th 1993? Don't they matter?

    What about the June 25th 1996 Dhahran, Saudi Arabia truck bomb that exploded outside Khobar Towers military complex, killing 19 American servicemen and injuring hundreds of others. Where's their compensation?

    How about the 19 sailors that were killed and others that were injured on the USS Cole on October 12th 2000? Don't they get anything?

    There's many many more that's not been compensated so where does it end?

    It's not the tax payers responsibility to pay for these things. Congress never gets tired of giving other people's money away. :x

    Fire fighters knew what they were signing up for when they took the job.

    Smitty you are spot on I believe the same. There are already avenues for "anyone" that is injured in the scope of their job. No matter if you cook hamburgers or put out fires.

    "IF" there needs to be Special Fund for ALL terrorist acts then how about the Iran hostage crisis? How about the Oklahoma bombing? How about living in a civil combat zone, Ferguson?

    Yeah, you get a celebrity like John Stewart testifying before Congress, calling the congressmen a bunch of names and he shames them into shelling out the money, for his little pet project.

    I always thought Stewart was a POS.

    The way I have always looked at it, is these were a day in these peoples lives. A horrible day, yes, but just a day none-the-less. It is hardly different than the trucker dying along a road after an accident, construction people falling to their deaths, a soldier or policeman getting shot in the line of duty, etc. IMHO, everyone should have insurance to help their family out when they are gone. My wife would be perfectly fine on her own (financially and otherwise) but I still have a life insurance policy that will pay off everything we owe, plus about that much more. She couldn't retire on it probably, but it'll take the cost of throwing me into the fireplace out of the equation.

    I was agreement until the last sentence. No one signed up for the job being told they'd get cancer after being told the site was safe, and the air safe to breath for extended periods. Unfortunately like every other fed program it will be used as a path to fraud t enrich people that do not deserve a dime.

    I agree with Shilowar's comments.

    In addition, I think that most folks don't know about the initial payout (of our money) to the families of the civilians killed in the attack. The civilians went to work that day, anticipating no danger greater than a paper cut. Yet, many got multimillion $ checks, based on a secret formula that determined the "value" of each person's life. So, I think that the head of a prosperous brokerage got far more money that the bus boy at the Top of the World.

    Those seeking compensation now are probably not sitting on a huge investment portfolio; they just want to have their medical expenses covered. And, they deserve that.

    All these 'government employees' have health insurance plans, life insurance plans, etc. And for those who were employed in the twin towers, most if not all probably had coverage of some sort as well....I would think.

    I am at a loss why all this extra funding is required?

    As a military person in the 1960's, had I been killed in service, there was a $10,000 death benefit and that was it?

    Is it now necessary to pay these people forever and their families too? Were their own insurance plans no good?

    Please provide a logical explaination if you can......thanks.

    They all had insurance!!

    And I heard on the news that one fellow died of prostate cancer from the incident and he needs the money so bad!!!
    I didn't know you could get prostate cancer from sucking in dust and fumes and contact with construction materials.......not to mention, it is too late for him anyhow......

    Today billions of tax dollars for the fund becomes law..........and still not one person can explain why it's required when emergency personnel and other die every day doing what is required to save or attempt to save others.

    I'd just like to know why.

    I have a similar issue every time somone dies and they take up a pubblic collection and set up a go fund me account to pay for the funeral. When I was born my parents took out a life insurance policy for enough to cover burial expenses. I did the same when my kids were born. I am still paying for a life insurance policy for my youngest daughter who is single with no kids, 37 years old and makes more than I do. I do it beacue she lives half way across the country and if something happens to her I want to be able to bring her home without having to beg for money.

    It seems getting someone else to pay for what you want has become the norm these days.

    That, in itself, is a sad state f affairs.
