Rechargeable batteries,,
Thinking of buying rechargeable batteries and a charger. Specifically 9v. My safe really eats batteries with higher humidity in the summer.

I use Eneloop AA's on a daily basis. Seem to work better than every other brand I have tried. 0 -
I used rechargeables in many of my game cameras I had for a system around my old house.
They worked okay, BUT watch for the voltage they are!!
A normal AA, C, D cell battery is rated at 1.5 volts new.
Most of the rechargeable ones were rate at 1.2 volts.
That's a big difference when talking about a total of 6 volts in each unit.
4 x 1.5v = 6volts..........4 x 1.2v= 4.8volts.......That's almost a dead normal battery reading.
Check the voltage of the 2 different batteries.....don't rely on what the package says.
Some items work well with lower voltage, some don't. I never tried the 9 volt ones.

Not knowing about your gun safe, I would ASSUME it needs a good steady voltage for the electronics, then a decent amount of amperage for the mechanical unlocking.
Rechargeable batteries come in many AH {amp-hour} ratings. Get the highest possible in your size.
My thinking is, and it may be wrong, That while the std. 9volt cell is great for electronics, it just doesn't have the storage capacity because of it's small size. I see those size 9v batteries going dead a lot if you use the safe a lot.
It would be great if you could install/change over to a 9v battery pack such as this....0 -
Imop, being at the mercy of a battery for a safe is counterproductive. That being said I gave a safe to my local gun club 9 years ago and we have changed the 9 volt battery once in that time. At the store we had a lot of safes on display. They were opened a lot by both the sales people and customers on a daily basis and we very rarely needed to change the batteries. This makes me wonder why you are going thru batteries so fast. If it is indeed the humidity causing the electronics to short and drain the battery perhaps you could seal the battery compartment ( a piece of tape would suffice ) and put a bead of silicone around the keypad to keep the moisture out.
