What About That GMC Truck Tailgate In The Commercial?
Is that a gimmick, or is it actually useful?

That tailgate wouldn't survive a month on a construction truck 0 -
just my 2 cents I doubt if any of them get used enough to wear out in a reasonable time . the first few months to show off a new toy then slowly will be used just like another tail gate .
the one ( ford ? ) that had the pop up handle seemed to be more useful . as for me I will just continue as the last 50 years just climb in as normal

Never liked the high beds in any pickup truck. Ford was the first, GM followed, and Dodge was last. If pickups had 4' high beds like they did prior to the 2000s you would not need a step ladder. Its no surprise utility trailer sales are so high where I live.
Like the idea of being able to put stuff in the back without opening a tail gate and having to climb in the back. Yeah, you get a deeper bed, but convenience is lost.

I?ve got a Honda Ridgeline with a tail gate that opens like a door. So I can use the bumper as a step if need be.0 -

It looks like Ford and Dodge will wear them out before GMC sells one. GMC has been advertising them for a couple of years and is still saying ?only available on NEXT GENERATION GMC. 0 -
The designers said "hey, let's take the simplest part of this truck and make it as complicated as we can". It's still Government Motors so I wouldn't be interested even if I thought it had any pertinent utility.
To top it off, it has a feature that drops a portion of the tail gate so that the user can ostensibly move closer to the bed of the truck. When I first saw a demo of it, the guy lowered that section and then put a cooler in the bed. So, either it's completely useless or the guy demoing it didn't realize that the only benefit was to reach something ALREADY in the bed, that was maybe to far toward the cab. Either way, really, it is a hell of a lot of complexity to achieve a fairly minor result.0 -
Seems like if they really wanted to sell it, they could put a rubber pad on the tailgate to rest on the ball, and adjust the angle of the step for with, or without, the trailer hitch. 0 -
I like the Rambox option on my Ram 2500.
Super handy so nothing floating around inside the cab and easy to access besides.0 -

I figure those young engineers will come up with a picking system ( crane )attached to the side of the tailgate to get stuff out of the bed like the old carnival games to get a toy. 0 -

Chevy trucks have to run first to get on the highway. Reason they make Fords is to push them off the road when they break down.0 -
If you have GMC kind of money and after you?ve seen all the tailgate commercials you?d still rather have a Silverado, you can get a new Silverado with a key fob operated power tailgate. All it does is open and close the tailgate, but it lets everybody know you?re special.
On second thought, if you have GMC kind of money why don?t you just hire somebody to do your hauling?0 -

I made a pipe carrier out of my tailgate, plain 2016 Chevy, by backing into a light pole with it down. 700.00 for tailgate a 300.00 to paint.
I can only imagine what that one would cost, I have heard 2500.00 is just the start.
Had a good day, found a new takeoff for 400.00. Seller had a complete LWB bed, tailgate, and bumper for 1200.00, new take off. Still kicking myself for not buying it.0 -

I haven't seen on in person but I wonder how heavy duty they are? Are hinges and parts plastic?
I have the tailgate step and handle on my super duty and being short and fat I use it all the time. It holds up to some weight.0 -
