A group of Arizona police officers were asked to leave a Starbucks coffee shop on July 4 after a customer complained to staff that she ?didn?t feel safe? with them being there, reports say.
Five cops from the Tempe Police Department were drinking at a branch of the coffee chain in the city when they were approached by a barista and told that a customer had made a complaint about their presence.
The worker is said to have told them to either move out of the complaining customer?s line of sight or leave the premises entirely, the Tempe Officers Association claimed in a series of tweets.
President of the union, Rob Ferraro, believes the treatment the officers were subjected to is an unfortunate sign of the times.
?It?s become accepted to not trust or to see police and think that we?re not here to serve you,? Ferraro told FOX 10.

You have to understand Starbunks policy of open door for vagrants and homeless occupation. So yeah, I can see why their clientele might be scared.

Most people are pro law enforcement. I believe Starbucks will lose business because of what they did. Mabe the customer did not feel safe because they have warrants out on them.
The only negative for the cops is people will wonder if they have that much money to waste at Starbucks mabe they are overpaid.0 -

Seems to me that the manager of that joint needs to explain simple economics to the person that asked the cops to leave.
At table 'A' I have five paying customers. At table 'B' I have one paying customer. Table 'B' is uncomfortable so they ask Table 'A' to leave? STOOPID!
This is, of course, leaving out the whole issue of one snowflake being scared of the big bad police that are there to protect said snowflake...0 -
A Gadzillion years ago, the NYC Police were complained on by the Diplomats and their cronies around the UN building. Seems the Leo's were putting parking tickets on illegally
double parked cars that were obstructing traffic. THE NERVE OF THEM WRITING TICKETS!!
The local station house pulled all the cops from that area.
Then by some mysterious thing, windshields were getting broken on double parked cars. :shock:
The UN people called back and complained about NO law enforcement in the area!!!
If left alone, most cops know how to handle A_H+=les like those in Starbucks...0 -

In truth, just about all of the "fast food" places make more money on their fancy named coffee drinks than they do on the FOOD!
I do enjoy a good milk shake once in a blue moon and even one that Arby's calls a Mocha shake. They cost about the same as the other Lati-da coffee stuff, but my taste buds do crave ice cream more than sweet coffee.0 -

Hypothetical question. Suppose another customer got in the face of the whiner while the cops were present. Would the cops have to protect the idiot who didn't feel safe as they were getting beat down by another irate customer? 0 -

I drink a pot of brewed coffee every morning. But whenever we go to ?the big city? we like to stop at a coffee place. Ms. WT usually gets a whipped cream topped frappa something. If we?re in one place I get a double espresso. If it?s the Starbucks I get a chai tea. ?Fancy? coffee is our treat to ourselves when we?re in a city with a coffee shop. So, to us, that ~$10 is well spent for 2 drinks and Wi-Fi that?s faster than our 700kb internet.
Yes, I?d prefer to visit a small business vs. Starbucks, but we usually visit Starbucks in Winchester on our every other month trip.
I?m not sure that boycotting Starbucks because one manager in a store screwed the pooch. Especially since Starbucks responded the way they did. Now, if Starbucks policy was ?no cops? or ?no guns? that?d be a different story. Or if Starbucks corporate responded with ?we stand with our local manager decision? that?s a different story.
Now, if you don?t want to pay $4 for a coffee, then don?t. But I?m pretty sure that as long as the economy stays vibrant, Starbucks will have plenty of customers...0 -
Just remember that this is likely a regular employee that may (or may not) have handled it the way the company wishes. I am not defending them. I have never been in one, don't drink coffee anyway. But, just because an employee does something, doesn't mean it reflects company policy / stance. If/when they address this publicly will show how the company itself feels. 0 -
