computer question....

i know i'm needing glasses, and probably have the start of cataracts.....is there a way to darken the text that i read? here on GB and other places, if there is a background color of a post, the intensity of normal letters is so mild it makes things hard to read. is there an easy fix to this?

    I use the Chrome browser and in the upper right-hand corner there are three vertical dots, you can "ZOOM" I typically leave mine at 150%, higher if needed. I concur the contrast is rough on my eyes also.
    Some sites have a theme function that changes the background and font color. A black background and whit fonts work for me. Win blue fonts are also good on a white background.

    When I plug my laptop into the wall plug, the whole picture brightens up where I can actually read stuff. Even if my battery is fully charged. I have days where my vision is poorer and days when it is better.

    On real bad days I see blurry and double. I will increase the size of the internet screen on those days by hitting the CTRL button along with the + button at the same time. If you hit the + button several times, your screen size will keep expanding accordingly.

    Hit the CTRL and the - (minus) button, and your screen size shrinks back down. I know that most folks know all of this but it took me a few years to figure it out.

    I just gave in and bought a 55" TV on Black Friday and use that as a monitor. Everything is so much bigger without sacrificing the desktop space. So much easier to read things. Love it. Although I think a 50" would have been better (less moving of the neck to read the whole page :D ).

    Just hold your control button down and use the wheel of your mouse to increase or decrease the size of what you're trying to read.

    changing the size isn't changing the difference between the text and the background. while i don't want a bold black letters, a pale blue background and a grey letter isn't enough contrast. changing size helps but isn't changing the main problem i have

    go to chrome://settings/fonts and you can change the font size and which font it uses.

    there you can also change font color, but that requires an extension for Chrome.

    If you have the Chrome browser you can download a free extension "A+fontsize changer". You can change font colors and background colors. Changing the contrast can help. I found dark blue works well for me. Everything is in a nice little pop-up menu that lets you easily adjust the settings until you find the right one for you. And it has a handy reset button if you want to revert to the original theme quickly.
