    Those officers are fortunate that he didn?t start his charge while hidden from the camera.

    Also - very lucky the person was white...

    If the cops don't shoot someone every once in a while, "Freeze!" Does not carry any meaning.

    You don't use a Taser on someone with a knife. That is a good way to get yourself killed or seriously injured. Google "The 21 Foot Rule."

    That can't be in the police training book, to back up and retreat like that. Take a good stance, aim and shoot at the correct time. This video emboldens more criminals.

    The criminal got the cop. His buddy had to save his sorry azz.

    You?re correct. The criminal should never have gotten close enough to the cop. It?s not like he surprised them.

    But how / when do you make that decision to shoot? True - it?s likely spelled out in the police trained no.

    But! You know that even though the guy was white, all hell would have been raised had the left deemed that the cop shot too soon.

    It doesn't fit the narrative, no evil "automatic" weapons involved.

    I am by no means a trained police officer, but what those two did seems pretty stupid to me. Years ago we had a police cadet In my martial arts class. That criminal with a knife, would have been face down with a broken arm behind his back if my fellow student (police cadet) had been there.

    I just can't fathom what they are teaching in the academy any more, it doesn't jibe with what I know some are learning.

    Correct, deadly force should be met with deadly force. An edged weapon is deadly force, especially if you have a motivated attacker.

    I've read quite a bit of criticism of these officers in this situation online, not just here. No one knows how they will react to a critical incident such a this, those viewing it are not necessarily getting the officer's POV, and are sitting comfortably in their home with no threat of death when they view it.
    For example the viewer already knows there will be a deadly encounter from the title of the view before they even hit play. While the officer has to be instantly prepared for it. Research into deadly police encounters have shown that many officers go through an instantaneous moment of denial, shock that they are being attacked which impairs some of their reaction time and decision making. There are only so many ways to prepare for these situations both mentally and physically. The officer is reacting to an attacker that already has a plan, and has committed to that plan. Up until a few years ago the public wasn't privy to the intimate details of most police shootings. The use of body worn cameras demonstrates that these situations are rarely simple, clean events like on TV.

    I'm just glad the second officer took the head shot and ended the situation before his partner was killed.

    ...bad things happen in the blink of an eye. Armchair quarterbacking is easy. However, finding yourself in a situation like that happens in seconds-or less. You may think you know what you?d do, but, in reality, you have no idea until you?re the one ?on the dime?. It was fortunate that these two were able to go home at the end of their shift. Making a successful head shot under those conditions is pretty tough to do. You?ll notice also, unlike on TV, that, just because someone is shot a time or two, they don?t just fall down. Wounds may be fatal but many will fight on until blood loss, etc, finally take over. Now a full on head shot, by an officer under the stress of a situation like that, is damn hard to make, especially on a moving suspect.

    Two officers in a challenging spot, trying to stay safe, preserve life, and do the right thing. Tough situation. Glad they both came through it ok.

    Dynamic scenarios are tough to train for, hard to control, .......and easy to critique.

    when he's walking toward you with a knife, you tell him to stop, and he keeps walking toward you with a knife! time to pull the trigger! plain and simple

    nah, it's easy to know what to do. the hard part is trying to figure out if you're going to get in trouble for what you're about to do, in 0.05 of a split second.
