Welrod silenced pistol
I was searching through the net trying to find information to show my friend about the FP-45 liberator ( he never heard of one) the other day and stumbled on this information on the welrod silenced pistol that was designed and built during World War II by the British. And was in use well beyond World War II with documentation showing that was even used by the British in the Falkland Wars and as late as 1991 during Desert Storm
. I have never heard of it, which I guess is understandable because it was a pistol that the information on it was marked top secret, coupled with the fact that I am by no means a historian. I could tell you about it, but everything I know about it is in this article if you'd like to read it.

I believe the U Tuber, who has the "Forgotten Weapons" site, has covered the Welrod, among lots of others. He was at the Leeds UK, weapons museum, believe it was there? Really like his work and shows! Learn about a lot of guns, that are very unique. Wish I could actually fire, some of the guns he does. Going around to the different museums, auction houses and private collections.

The original used a barrel from a Thompson SMG. Not quite as quiet as a Welrod, but actually had a usable range- up to 100 meters.0 -
I only learned of the Welrod from playing video games like Sniper Elite series. As much as many talk bad about video games, they can be really educational. I now have a love of WWII war-birds thanks in no small part to an early 90's game called Aces (of the Pacific, Over Europe, etc). It was of course really rudimentary compared to today's games but before missions (except historical missions), you could pick your plane. The dialog talked about strengths and weaknesses. You could also do 'situations' which was a lot of fun. You could, for instance, start out 1 versus 4 with the enemies on your tail. Anyway, that silly little game lead me to first like and research WWII aircraft, then that lead to WWII firearms then WWII history in general, One never knows what will inspire them. 0 -

That was a darned good pistol although the front sight was a bit difficult to see at times. The one I used had been modified so the safety locked the bolt closed but didn't block the trigger/sear. The "safety" was the 1/2 cock notch and the operator. The accuracy made hits @ 20-25 yards common-course it wasn't supposed to be used that way.0 -
I remember seeing similar Hi Standard barrel on ebay about 10/15 years ago? A little before they "banned" gun bits. The one I saw was a push button model with few holes drilled in the sleeve. Knew enough not to bid but I should've kept tabs to see how much it went for. 0
