Friends, relatives and colleagues of an American scientist who went missing during a conference on a Greek island last week said Sunday that search dogs and specialized sea equipment would be used to help locate her.
They said authorities launched the operation on Crete, Greece's largest island and a popular tourist destination, after Suzanne Eaton, a 59-year-old molecular biologist, vanished Tuesday, and described the added search and rescue teams in a statement Sunday on Facebook.
Eaton, a scientist with the Max Planck Institute in Dresden, Germany, disappeared Tuesday near the port of Chania. In a statement, her family said she had been attending a conference at the Orthodox Academy of Crete in the village of Kolymbari, outside Chania.
Colleagues at the conference told authorities they believed she had gone for a run in the area.

They found her, unfortunately she was dead cause unknown at this time.

The body of an American scientist who went missing on the Greek island of Crete a week ago has been found, according to her employer.
Suzanne Eaton, 59, had been attending a conference at the Orthodox Academy in northwest Crete, when she is believed to have disappeared during a run on July 2.
Greek police found her body on Monday evening, according to the Max Planck Institute at Dresden University in Germany, where she worked as a biologist.
Local authorities "have not yet completed their investigation regarding the events that may have transpired" on the afternoon Eaton went missing, the institute said in a statement.
"We are deeply shocked and disturbed by this tragic event," it added. "Suzanne was an outstanding and inspiring scientist, a loving spouse and mother, an athlete as well as a truly wonderful person beloved to us all."

They found her in a bunker dead. No cause yet but she had been out running in the afternoon and it was hot. It is suspected she got hot and sought shade from the sun.
It was 7 miles from where she was staying and she normally only ran for 30 min. No way could she get 7 miles in 30 min.

The American biologist whose body was found in a Nazi bunker in Crete, Greece, on Monday was murdered, it has been revealed.
Dr. Suzanne Eaton was found dumped in the cavernous tunnel network near Chania on Monday night.
Local medical examiners have revealed that she was suffocated, stabbed and one of her ears had been cut off, according to local outlet Star.gr.
Her body was found in a network of tunnels used by the Nazis to store ammunition following the Battle of Crete in 1941, which saw the Germans triumph and overwhelm the island until 1945, when they surrendered to the British after years of strong resistance from local civilians.
Greek media reports indicate that the person or people who put Dr. Eaton's body there must know the network of tunnels well.
She was found 200ft inside the network by a pair of civilians who alerted authorities on Monday.
The one where she was found is especially difficult to access because there is a tree at its entrance.
According to two Greek coroners cited by Star.gr, Eaton's murderers covered her nose and her mouth to kill her.0 -

When I read about this a few days ago after the authorities found her body, they were saying they thought she maybe got hot on her jog and took refuge in the tunnel. What a ludicrous thing to suggest once they had recovered the body, missing an ear, 200' into the tunnel. I read that she was a master black belt so very possibly wasn't one person unless a hired assassin (maybe N. Korea). 0 -
