Modern engine efficeincy.

I am really amazed at the highway mileage my 2019 Dodge Challenger R?T can get. Around town...not so great. But get it out on the highway and it cruises. In 6th gear with the cruise control set to 60 mph it gets 33 mpg. At 70 it gets 29. I am impressed that a 4,000 pound car with a 375 hp V-8 can do that well on gas.

    We had the same car back in the 60's and early 70's.

    BUT we got 6 to 9 miles per gallon. :shock:

    The best carburetors of those days had 5 or sometimes 6 "circuits" for fuel control.
    4 of the 6 were not used after a high idle was reached.

    Leaving 1 or 2 "controls" for fuel management.

    Your computer controlled fuel curves are watched and changed as needed every second.
    You can't beat computers for controls.......Ask Skynet when it becomes alive.......

    I have a 2013 LR4 with the 375 hp 5 liter engine.

    5,700 Lbs and it gets around 24 MPH at 60 MPH.

    Aerodynamics of a rounded brick as well.

    SIL bought a new mid-range Dodge 1500 about a month ago. If I told you MPG no one here would believe me. A V-6 pushed against the firewall and about a yard in front of empty space. At first glance I thought they forgot to put the engine in. Ten speed trans with plenty of power and great towing. I tell you gents it ain't about the engine its all about the transmission.

    I have a 540 horse/520 torque SB chevy in a 68 camaro with a gear vendor overdrive and 3:55 rear. I get 15 mpg cruising at 80 mph @ 2300 rpm :D
    my 2019 equinox , 1.5 turbo . the best it has gotten so far has been 28 mpg

    They might be doing wonders with the big V8's, but the little 4 banger work rails I drive are getting worse. The Ford escorts I had in the 90's went an average of 350,000 miles, mid to poor maintenance, (oil changes every 10,000 to 15,000 miles, wether needed or not) and they all got an average of 40mpg.

    With all the extra environmental crap on them now, my focus gets 30 to 35mpg, and only get about 250,000 miles out of them, with better maintenance.

    I drive 70 miles one way to work, and usually work 6 days a week, sometimes 7.
