Per, "FN Browning Pistols", by Vanderlinden. You have a very low serial number, "a", Suffix HP. Made for the krauts, in May 1943. The "a" Suffix pistols. Started production in May 1943. 12,000+ were produced monthly. Your serial number, would date it to the first month of production.

I hear ya. Use to collect military handguns, many moons ago. If pitting is the problem? You might consider sandblasting the external surfaces with course sand. Than dip bluing the HP. This mitigates the effect of the pitting, and blends it in over the entire surfaces, Won't be original obviously, but it will look a lot better. Than with blotches of pitting, over various different areas.

May have been well used in combat. Now that it has history use it as is, don't have to worry about marking up a good collectable. Ammo is cheap for it. ;)
