The pre war .38/44 but not in .357 mag. If you don?t HAVE to have an N frame they did make the blued 581 and stainless 681 L frames in .357 mag with fixed sights. Those two would be easier to find and probably cheaper than the .38/44 would be. 0 -
harder to find than I thought.
what frame is the 581 on?0 -

L frame. Bigger than the K but smaller than the N. There are some of each for sale on the auction side.0 -

Look for a Model 520 - the NY State Trooper model. After that, finding an HD will seem easy. And economical.
I have a 5" version, transition model made in 1946 - single line manufacturers stamp. I'd say it's about 95% easy, cost me $800.00 about 2 years back up in Oregon.0 -

S&W presently makes the N Frame Model 327, an 8-shot 357 fixed sight revolver. The cylinder is cut for moon clips should that be of interest to you. It's short barreled and light weight (relative to other N Frames) and expensive.

Yes, they did. A pretty snappy .38 that was beyond .38 Special, but would fire .38 Special.0
