Blasted a Ammo Can
Spent like an hour using my buddy's sand box yesterday. Barely a stream of sand every now and again. So I asked dude if the silly thing had sand in it? It turned out all the sand was piled up to one side. Which got me wondering since the silly machine has a shape of half an hour glass so how the Hell does sand collect on one side? Anyways, I could've used that bit of information about an hour ago. So back to the task of blasting rust and paint off this can. Spent another hour blasting before I said good enough. Inside of the can was rusty, too so that's why it took so dam long. I was worried if was going to take out a can after blasting figuring the rust and old paint was holding the can together
.
So this ammo can must be old because it has a embossing of the round I wanna say 30-06 (or 45-70

) on the lid portion? Also the lower half of the can is made up of many pieces. Bottom, two sides making the side and the lock face to hold everything together. I also noticed letters stamped here and there under the rust and crappy pant. I think I'll make a note of what and it's locations after I pant the silly thing. I now it's not as old as one of the can dude has. He has one with what looks like a "lit bomb". So I guess back then they used to stamp some interesting stuff on ammo cans.
As for the paint. I'm thinking single color and not my typical expression of colorful camo design. I do have a can of Warm Caramel (picked up when OSH was having a going out of business sale) which should match my Marlin 1895GS's wood so I'll pack my 45-70 in that can. If the color doesn't quite match it'll standout so I don't have to put 45-70 stencil on the can. I wonder if I should lead the bottom seam?

Never bought an Ammo can, that was worse than it's Flat OD green paint, would be okay. If so, I would pass.
Personally, I prefer the flat OD green paint job.
"Warm Caramel," priceless.0 -
You can buy ammo cans around here in excellent condition if not new for $15.00 or less. I think I have more than 30 of the things with ammo stored. 0 -

Wow!
Last time I bought ammo cans, and it's been a while, they were $1.00 each, but I had to buy a lot of them.0 -

You are dating yourself.
What was that, in the 1950's?

Does "Warm Caramel" go nicely with the color scheme on your chocolate chip cookie camo patterned fatigues...
Or is it more akin to the cream tones found on individual MRE packs...

Flea market in Crossville ,TN..........5.56 cans $6====7.62 cans $8======20mm $15
And the guy's making a killing, he gets them at 1/3 the price.
How about 3,600 ammo cans from 7.62 ammo.
Now going at $650...... plus tax !

mrmike08075 - Warm Caramel is fancy talk for kind a brown. Don't have German Fleck Camo in my camo shorts collection. Are you referring to the US Desert 5 color as the chocolate chip cookie camo? I got the shorts and the matching boonie hat.
remingtonoaks - The can was free and so was the fishing tackle. All kinds of big ass hexagon chromed out bars that came with it. If I took the hook off and replaced it with a bit or para-cord I got a "blinged" out black jack.
Yes I know I could've spent the two hours drinking Olys but the dude I was waiting on was supposed to bring up some Black Hills from a shop near him. Maybe next week? I just hope to get the ammo before July1.0
