Actually, we live a ways north of Greenville. We got a lot of rain, a little hail, and some wind, but no discernible damage, yet.
Greenville, where I used to work, got hit pretty good. From the pictures I've seen, the biggest problem is lack of electricity for many customers. And there are a lot of roofs and fences damaged.
Fire & Rescue put out a call for mutual aid, and volunteer firefighters and equipment from all over the county responded. I know from previous experience that this is going to be a LONG night. All the cops available will be called in to patrol the areas without power, probably on foot, to deter looting.
I was called in after the tornado of 1985, and spent 17 hours on my feet. In the rain. It's going to be the same for the cops working tonight.
Tonight is a good time to be retired.0 -
One of the big Baptist churches was clobbered hard, as was the Lutheran church. The place where I buy tires got hit hard as well. Lots of the city is still without power, and lots of streets are blocked due to poles, trees, and power lines down. 0 -

Glad to hear you didn't get any damage. Those things are scary.
When I was living in a travel trailer while working out of town in Yazoo City, MS back in 2010 and 2011, tornado warnings were almost a weekly thing. And you don't want to be in a travel trailer during a tornado! Even an ordinary thunderstorm sounds like you ought to be looking for shelter.
That old WWII sounding warning siren going off at 2:00 AM was enough to scare the bejeebers out of someone. It may have not been the safest place but I found a bridge underpass that was at least safer than my travel trailer where I would park in my truck until the storm passed.0
