In ER with My Bride

My Bride slipped and fell while getting into the skid steer and hurt her lower back and right shoulder.
I was about 80 yds away at a corral gate, Grandson was about half the distance and heard her scream when she lit and he then came running to me telling me Grandma had fallen.
I got to her and checked her out and immediately called for an ambulance, fearing neck or spine injury.
Got her covered up and immobilized until EMTs got there and got her into a neck brace and onto a back board.
She is mostly coherent, I think more from the drugs than where she dinged her her head.
She?s in now for scans.

She was just hopping in to move it to a corral for me after refueling so I could show Grandson what needed done

Small farm accidents happen pretty sudden and unplanned.

I?d probably never posted this except for Remington oaks post about his bride.

These women are special to us and we take them for granted until they are hurt or gone.

I?m kicking my self in the ass for asking her to move the skid steer for me, I was just trying to save a few minutes

    You can't kick yourself, mule. Accidents happen. She could have slipped in the bathtub instead (statistically MUCH more likely, in fact.)

    Rocky, you?re likely right because if she?d fallen in the tub, I wouldn?t have found her until 4 or 5 o?clock when I came back in the house.

    Thanks Bill, nothing back on scans yet and they have her knocked out.
    Don?t think she will be riding the fuzz off of any colts for a bit.

    Nah, but she's a tough old bird. A Spring chicken would've been harder hit. Tell her that for me, willya? And say "Hi" to the boys.

    sounds a lot better for her than a friend of mine..we had morning coffee and blather at the co-op and he got up and went east and i got up and went west and 30 minutes later he was dead.. in his late 40's....moving some dirt with a junky old skid steer, reached in to do ????? with the bucket up and the loaded bucket dropped on him.... chit happens quick

    Haven taken a few falls but so far always when getting out of my skid steer. It happens so fast especially after being in one for many hours pushing snow, then trying to walk on snowy or icy ground.
    Hope she is back home soon, helping out where she can. You are a lucky man to have a wife who wants to help out of the house!

    Guys, thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers.
    Just got home from ER
    Could have been much worse, just heavy bruising and strains. Scans revealed no movement in the two rods in her neck nor the two rods in her lower back and no damage to right shoulder, Thanks God, it could have been far worse.

    Now the adavan (sp) is wearing off, she is back to normal ornery self.
    I bet she will be way stiff tomorrow.

    Glad it turned out as well as it did.
    She'll be a sore one tomorrow I bet for sure.

    I always worry about the same dang thing. The wife will gladly hop in the skid to help, and sometimes this can be downright dangerous. Getting in a skid is a trick and if you don't ALWAYS pay attention with a solid 3 point stance/grip you can slip and injure yourself badly. There's a lot of bad ju-ju to get tangled up in below your feet.

    I hope the wife is okay and recovers quickly! I feel your concern!

    P.S. We've got one of the big NH skids, and that thing is not friendly at all to lose your grip on getting in!! Get your legs down in between the boom and the bucket and something is going to give (and likely not the skid). Our thoughts are with you!

    Ours is a 272C Cat and its not real friendly either. I have instructed till I'm blue in the face about mounting this thing, explained why you grasp the handle on ROP frame first with left hand and then door handle with the right after you've mounted the bucket, bale fork, etc.
    I didn't get to see the crash but I'm guessing she took a shortcut, but she might do it differently next time.

    I'm loading her up at 04:00 to go with me to haul a mule to Powell Wyo, I bet she eats a bunch of flexeril tomorrow and sleeps most the way both ways, but she wouldn't miss it as it's a chance for a short visit with Grandkids. So she'll tough it out.
