Counts Customs just featured rebuilding a 62' (?) for one of their members anniversery gift to his wife.
It was really, really nice. I've been jonesing for one for a while now, to rebuild. I used to own a hot rodded, 69'. Unfortunately, they have got ridiculously expensive.
If you know of one around. Hook a Brother up.

I haven't seen one that wasn't a rust bucket in years.

The one that Counts Customs just finished was way nicer.
Who knew these would be worth so much? This was the second car I ever bought for myself, after a 61' Ford Econoline. (Modified Van) Three on the Tree. Bought it back in Miami, in 1976. Bought the Karmann Ghia in 78'.
Loved that car.

74' Camaro Z-28, after that. Traded for a 72' International Scout II, drove it Cross Country, had it in Denver 1st year in the Army. Then drove it back East Coast, had it a couple years. Would like to have that ride back, also.0 -

That is a nice set up with the new built motor, 2 carbs and the body and interior look good in the pics.
You are not going to find one under 10k thats not a clapped out rust bucket, its like CJ's, IH Scouts, Old Z28's, they command a price because thay all were either wrecked, rusted out or turned into a bubba mobile.

Yes, I agree Sam.
Unfortunately, I do not have $8500 to play with. Need to re-roof my house. All steel this time. Rip off a 2-3 layer shingle set up. New deck, in the works also. Paid off both vehicles couple months ago. Extra $750 available each month.
Will try and improve my situation, get some things done.

Hell, I paid almost that much for my lawnmower, I agree, reasonable price but still negotiable...after all it is on "craigslist" and that alone speaks volumes to me0 -
I am another that never got the Ghia attraction, but I did love beetles, great off road cars, way cheaper than Scouts or jeeps. We would be in a real mess if we all wanted the same thing. Not enough girls or cars or even cookies to go around. 0 -
My late father had a Karmann Ghia back in the early 60's. He really enjoyed VW's and always had one or two or three all the years I was growing up. We were a big family and to get to ride anywhere with him in that small Ghia, was always a special treat. His favored VW was a pickup truck that had folding sides on the box. He used it for a work truck and it did amazing stuff in the worst Michigan weather!
Several VW busses that held a lot of kids but the heaters were far from warm when cold outside.
I have owned 2 VW's in my life. A 4-11 station wagon that was really quite a nice economical car back in the mid 1970's. Lots of space in that old rig. A trunk under the hood and a nice cargo area in the back above the engine compartment. Also had a 73 super beetle that was fun around town. Not so much on long trips though.0 -

I've taken my Karmann Ghia up to the Erwin, TN. "Beauty spot" numerous times. (Back in the day.)
I've also been up there in my 51'Ford pickup. Lifted, Kelly Safaris, 351 Cleveland, Posi rear, etc. etc. The look was equally priceless. That thing would go anywhere.
The look on some of the usually (only) 4WD crowd when I topped out, was priceless.

Don't do that you have 2 more years of working and you will need it. The best thing to do is take a loan on your house, low rates and long time to pay back if you cannot buy it outright.0 -

Here is the other end of the spectrum of the VW family, the 1971 VW van! Same engine, the 1600 cc air cooled, horizontally opposed.
I used to own one of these. I also had a 1961 Van, and a 1968. I guess I am a car masochist because I love these VW vans.
I would love to buy one but lately the costs have gone through the roof! To find one today in decent shape would cost at least $20K.

My Dad had one that we used to go on Boy Scout stuff. The rest of the time it sat in the shed. I think it was a 1968 and it was a panel van. It had the 2 seats up front and one bench seat at the very back, the middle was cargo area. It was a great vehicle to carry the troops gear into the mountains for a hike or a camping trip. It was a dog though when fully loaded.
I remember he bought the van in west TX and drove it to Ga. He used it for about 10 or 12 years and then a Woman rear ended him really bad and totaled the Van.0 -
Tried hard to buy the first (red) Baja Bug. One guy ahead of me to look at it, at noon today. Would not sell it to me, even at asking price, until other guy looked at it. (I can respect that.) I told Seller I was his guy, if other buyer would not meet his price, started haggling etc.
1st guy there at noon today, bought it for full price. It was worth that. That is the nicest one I have seen in quite some time.
I could have paid it off in 8 months. (No need to sell the Nissan.) [A fleeting thought.]

Look at this beauty. A 1968, completely restored, $36,000.
Damn I had one just like that, bought it in 1984, I paid $2800 for it and it was in as good a shape as this one. Dammit why didn't I keep my VW.0
