Okay, - It's On.
Came home around 3:30 ish, my normal time. Noticed my Tomato plants were getting to the point that they needed cages, or I would probably have a tough time getting the lower/smallest ring to go over/around the plant. (A good thing.)
Went inside, let Buddy out, got him a bowl of water and a treat out on the front deck. Chilled for a couple frosty adult beverages. Responsibility got the best of me, and I decided I should go get some Tomato cages out of my one garden shed they are stored in. Counted Tomato plants. Yep, need 16 cages.
Go to the outdoor shed, spin the combo, open up the door - all good.
Start counting out, seperating the larger cages from the smaller cages. Suddenly realize, I am being swarmed by Yellow Jackets. Get popped a couple times on my left wrist. Exit Shed post haste.
Go inside the house, get my small squirt bottle of Bifen IT. (Shaken, not stirred.) Go back outside, enter the swarm, and start misting the swarm with Bifen IT. Knowing everyone of them that comes in contact with it will die, and take it into the nest. Feeling pretty good about things.
Suddenly get popped right above the right eyebrow. (Damn that hurt.) Uhhhmmnnn, maybe this is not such a good idea. (?) :shock: Beat a hasty retreat.
Now letting the swarm have their day. I am undecided whether I will return to the nest with my squirt bottle on "stream," coating the entry to the softball size paper nest on my inside left door. (hidden, you Bassturds.)
(Or) I am thinking, (vengeful like) that I will spray the nest/door once opened (after they have calmed down) with some gas - and torch them up. (Most satisfying.) [Downside,] I might burn my shed down. Upside, No more Yellow Jackets.
The knot above my Right eyebrow is about the size of a half a small marble, on my forehead.
Currently, I have retreated, and am assessing the situation.
Frosty beverage in hand.
It is really too bad I do not possess/own a Flamethrower. (I hear they are Legal.)

I leave the driveway at 04:30 dark thirty, my Brother. Not gonna happen.
I will (however,) go back out there in an hour or two, and "Stream spray," some Bifen IT, onto the entry point to that nest. Done deal, at that point.0 -
Got em'.
Went back up. (The right hand door had blown closed due the wind.) Opened it up, they swarmed again.
Stepped inside the shed, hit the nest (on stream spray) about 20-30 times, stepped back out. Done deal now.
Bifen IT, is the bomb. (Adios MF'rs.)

set off a bug bomb close the door it will clean them all out
at least they were not killer bees
about 35 or years ago , My wife and I came home found our bedroom had thousands ( many thousands ) of honey bees . it was a old house we had bought recently to remodel as funds allowed so not sealed very well .. any way I went in to the bed room just for the hell of it see what it was like covered in bees :shock: blame it on young and dumb . I was careful and made it with out being stung
went into town got a bug bomb set it off and closed the bedroom door with in a couple hours no more bees . down side cleaning up thousands of bees like a carpet of dead bees and all furniture covered in our bed room
I hated killing all the honey bees but it was late had to work the next day so little options .0 -

Yellow Jackets? I am an expert on Yellow Jackets, I attended Ga. Tech for 2 quarters.
Down here in Georgia, they live in holes in the ground.0 -
Get a couple of bottles of the gas insecticide and put in each hole. They usually have a back door in the ground. Plug the hole with the gas. 0 -
Next we'll hear about is the phone call to the insurance company. "Hello Progressive, this is 84, I burned down my he shed while I was trying to kill wasps. Is my he shed covered?" 0 -
I almost always handle my wasp, hornet, yellowjacket, mud dobbers, etc after dark. They will almost never fly. I have thrown a ball at the nest, it fell to the ground with them still on it, then step on it. I am 48, been doing it this way my whole life and have never been stung doing this after dark. During the day on the time or two I tried, I get tagged probably 20% of the time.
Give it a shot. Either knock the nest down, or spray it with what you were trying to use. *edit* looks like you already handled it, but for future reference I guess.
I am like several other posters, bees aren't much of an issue. I think they know they generally die when they sting you and will fight if they have to, but try not to. Wasps? I think they just enjoy tormenting everything/everyone.
I found a nest in the ground one time when I was running the big round baler. I got hit a few times. Once I found where they hole was, there was one big bale in the middle of the field at an odd place and it was the last one to get removed. I figure they likely dug out a different path, but hopefully killed some or annoyed them like they annoy us.0
