I used to shoot a small monthly IPSC match in the early 90s. There were 2 types of shooters - us 9mm guys with Glocks, CZs, Berettas, etc vs the 1911 race gun crowd.

One of the race gunners who usually set the mark to beat on any given stage was shooting a middle B class ... we asked what was up.

Apparently the night before he had been reloading ammo for todays match, and somehow got his trigger finger stuck and crushed somewhat in his press. He could see the blood blister forming under the nail, and feel the pounding of his heartbeat right in his finger tip. He had to relieve the pressure.

So being in a garage full of tools and stuff, he claims to have put a 1/16" bit into a drill press, fired it up, and slowly lowered it until he was through his nail but not into the flesh underneath it. So his shooting was a bit slower and less accurate today, since he was really ginger on the trigger.

We of course all threw the BS flag, until he held out his right hand, palm down. And right in the middle of his trigger finger nail was a nice, round 1/16" hole...

My range story was at the gun club range today. Listening to some of the old guys complaining that the young guys were shooting up the piling poles and not cleaning up after themselfs.

The 100 yard range was a mess and guys were using un-hit clay birds as targets and destroying the backstops. By not following the rules. Its nice belonging to a club. But the in fighting never ends.

That would hurt. I've used a needle that I've heated it up red hot and burnt a hole in my nail to relieve the pressure, but to actually take a drill bit and drill...

back when I got the new LCP I took it for a test drive. went to the state park's shooting range, which is outdoors, pretty good and 3 bucks an hour. brought along the AK.

while I was shooting the AK, between targets I noticed one guy sitting on the bench checking out my AK. sort of army-style OD coat, shades, stocking cap.

later I moved to a 25 yd lane to shoot the LCP. he happened to be there too on a bench. next target change he walked up and had a great interest in the little pistol. upon closer inspection, the dude was in his 60's, thin, a little short, scraggly beard, looked like a Yugoslavian. he spoke very quietly with a gruff voice and an accent.

I let him look at it. he never seen anything like it and when he felt how light it was, he thought it was marvelous. he asked me what caliber and I said 380. he thought I said .30 and thought it was 7.62x25. (ha, that would be something) then he was asking me how I liked shooting the AK and he kept refering to his time in "the service" which I suppose meant some army. asked him if he wanted to shoot the AK and he said no thanks he's shot those enough.

he indicated that he was there with his friend to sight in a hunting rifle. (in the lane next to me... sighting in at 25 yards) next target change he came over. didn't say much but he had a different accent. shorter, Romanian, looked like a happy skiier. they were obviously not from around here. they said they were impressed with the accuracy of Western rifles.

then we went back to shooting. they left before I did.
