    Ruger provided the guns. Everything form 17 hmr up to 338 lapua. 204 Ruger was my favorite

    Looks like a damn fun time. 8-) Most of the old gopher hunting spots I used to set up at are now long shot-out. Saw a couple on a drive up in the woods earlier today, but of course they were behind fences covered in "no hunting" signs, mocking me. :roll: :lol:

    Ah, the brotherhood of the red mist. I've flung more ammo at those critters over the years than I care to count. Probably would have a lot more in the retirement account if not for all the varmint guns and ammo and components that I bought. Used to have some dandy places to shoot in the NW corner of S. Dakota. Sadly a lot of the towns were poisoned off and those that weren't the ranchers suddenly decided that pdogs were gold and wanted to charge accordingly. 223 for the medium distance ones, 22/250 for a bit farther and 243 for the really long ones. Never tried a 338 but did shoot a few 300 weatherbys at em. Bob

    YES!! l just love the RED mist... First taste was in TX after Desert Storm in 1990. Last yr was close Clayton N.M. Some dud yrs tho. Esp the RoseDud Sioux Reservation in SD...North Dakota and Wyoming are GREAT.. Even in its heyday VHA and its long shot vard clubs had no appeal. Most FUN was seeing them BLOW UP. If wind conditions were right you might get to see the RED MIST :D Favourite boolit is and was always Hornadys' 40gr VMAX...Preferably @3600-3800fps... 222-223 are my preferred ctgs.
    BEST trip of ALL was in 0regon 2001. Shot ground squirrels in the SNOW :!: On the way l stopped by the Nosler Plant, Bend 0regon. Twas John Nosler's 90th birthday.. Still have my souvenir Nosler manual signed by 3 gens of Noslers.. Ground squirrels in the snow were near Goose Lake, 0regon. Flew in to Portland from Columbia. 5 kilos of 17HMR ammo and Rugers new 77-17 bolt gun. 17gr VMAX @2550fps left a 3 ft RED trail thru the snow.. Nothing went to waste tho.. Golden Eagles are HUGE @ 50yds :!: They ate well ;)

    I got into a bunch of P-dogs many years ago while on a deer/antelope hunt in Wyoming.
    It was a blast! A real blast...'til we ran out of ammo.
    I'm jealous.

    CritterGitter has a colony of rock chucks living between his alfalfa field and the Boise River that me and one of my boys were thinning out on a regular basis. It got boring with the AR and .22's, so I brought out a M39 Finn Mosin that I slapped together from parts, and mounted a Finn anti tank gun PU scope on. I had a crate of Czech short range practice ammo that was crazy accurate from a barrel that was made to shoot 186grn bullets.
    46grn hollow jacket that leaves the muzzle around 3800fps, but after a 100yrds, velocity and accuracy drop off real fast. Bullets would turn into a flat disc on impact, launching an 8lb chuck a good 7yrds into the river. No coincidence the big catfish hang around that spot now. :mrgreen:

    It was the most fun I have had with clothes on in along time. Every gun we shot was suppressed except for the 338 lapua. I need a suppressor.

    After our 3 nights at the Mint I believe they can keep the lights on a few more months on us

    When I was home from college one summer my brother had made a friend that had a big town on his family farm.

    We bought up every .22 LRHP in the county and spent a long afternoon circling the town in a pickup with our .22's.

    Get in the bed, rest on the cab, pop dogs out to 200 yds until all were still or hidded, drive a ways to find fresh targets, repeat.

    Circled the town twice that afternoon until we ran out of ammo.

    Brother's friend decided he needed a Marlin 39a like we were shooting, but he couldn't believe how many I hit with the stock sights on my Mountie :lol:

    Too many miles and years ago :(
